Odyssey 5- It's not 'The New X-Files', it's good!

Has anyone seen this show? It didn't look that promising when it started off but I've seen about the first five episodes and am quite enjoying it (which normally means it'll get cancelled at the end of season one). Peter Weller is pretty good as Commander Chuck Taggert (the only character who's name I can remember because people keep shouting it at him each week) but the supporting cast are quite good too, especially the sarcastic English one who seems to be an expert at anything vaguely scientific.

But what I find interesting, almost more than the hackneyed conspiracy world-ending stuff is the examination of the implications of travelling back in time, already Taggert has his elder son who originally dropped out of trying to be an astronaut seems now to be doing it, his son is finding it difficult to relate to his stoner friends or his girlfriend, brilliant scientist guy has found his knowledge of the future hasn't allowed him to manipulate it to his advantage and news-reporter girl has saved her son's life and marriage, which makes meeting someone she would have had a relationship with after a divorce that didn't happen difficult.

The best, and daftest episode so far being one where they start to forget their mission.

So what do other people think of this? Ridiculous humdrum hokum or a damn good use of an hour?

I really like this show. I've seen all 14 aired (in the U.S.) episodes so far and having a great time. Like all shows, especially those in their first season, it has good moments and bad moments but overall, the good outweighs the bad.
The characters are all slightly larger than life I think and they seem to be hamming it up a fair amount but for some reason, that works fine.
It's being touted as the "natural successor to the X-Files", probably because it's not set in space, or in the future and it has often mentioned, but rarely seen, aliens. It aint the X-Files though (hooray), it knows for the time being at least that it's just television and it's great fun.
It's also got Ted Raimi in it soon too.....great stuff.
