hi, eveyone! i'm new here.

i live in San Diego, CA, in the US at the moment, but my partner and i are taking a reasonably spontaneous jaunt to Berlin Nov 9-16.

i was wondering if any of y'all had any suggestions about places to go and things to do and people to meet that might be of interest.

Ich bien ein Springfielder!

I was just there last week. Great place, great people, blah blah fishcakes.

Firstly, if you're staying at a hostel I can recommend Circus. The comfiest beds, mmmm, very important after 2 months of backpacking. And it's all new and clean etc.

Things to do, well in a city that claims to be where the doner kebab was invented in the form in which we know it today, there will obviously be a number of contenders looking for attention.

I don't normally do walking tours but I did this 5 hour walk with Insider Tours (book at the hostel) for 9 euros which was spectacular. Very detailed history from the beginnings of the city to WW2 and beyond, the history of how the wall came about. Wear something warm though 'cause it's already frickin' freezng there. But doing this tour gets you oriented and makes the rest of your stay a bit more straightforward.

The Pergamon Museum was cool, the Ishtar gates from Babylon, looted just for you. Always makes me feel a bit guilty going to museums like that where they've nicked whole valleys full of stuff, but I can't help going back ... There are other cool museums there, but I was a bit museumed out after having just been all over Europe.

Walk in Tiergarten, absolutely beautiful.

Go clubbing. I went to Tresor which was pretty good (the house was pretty soft though), and that was only on a weeknight, so the weekend would be far better I should think.

And there're plenty of cool bars/clubs to keep you busy, and plenty of second hand shops in the east to poke around in.

Anyway, that's mostly what I did. Any guide book will have lots more, but I'm sure you'll have a good time whatever you get up to.
