I've just aquired an old epson gt5000 scanner, now all i need is a driver to make it work with my Imac (running OS 9.1 ) - a quick glance at both apple's and Epson's sites reveals no joy neither does a google search- does anyone out there know where i could find such a driver or how to find one?

For PC this site has yet to fail me in locating drivers. It does have the driver you're after, but only for PC. A quick search of other sites would appear to suggest that said drivers do not exist for Imac. You could try using alternative Imac scanning drivers, located here, but I can find nothing for the model you mention.
The moral of this tale is clearly that you should purchase a PC.

A bit more of a search yields a few results. The driver is available for Mac OS's, although I'm buggered if I can find it. The driver group you need is the TWAIN 16/32, and then the file relevant to your OS. Epson's support site does contain some TWAIN drivers (towards the bottom of the page), which may work. Other than that, I can only suggest do a few searches yourself. Sorry I can't be of more help...

What is it about this site and scanners?

Try this cached google page:

ftp://ftp.epson.co.uk/pub/uk/drivers/imaging/scanners/mac/twain262.hqx

If you have a problem, PM me because I checked the d/l worked and have a promising file on my c: drive.

Paleface -- I think Barbelith attracts scanners because they are cool. Seriously though, comics = visual.

Ah, that doesn't look like a page address at all, does it! But it's the address of the file itself described as for a GT5000.

Give it a go and if not, as above. And let us speak no more of buying PCs. :-)

You'll probably find that Epson's drivers for Mac should work with most of their scanners. GO for an older one, maybe, and give it a whirl - the way the computer interacts with the scanner should be uniform across the brand: I had a similar problem with two different brands, and with Mac, it seems that near enough is often good enough - it's probably only in OSX that you'd need an exact match...
