From Jeffrey Wells' column:
"Wet-behind-the-ears director David Gordon Green (GEORGE WASHINGTON) has been tapped by Steven Soderbergh's Section 8 and Drew Barrymore's Flower Films, to pilot the long-delayed film version of John Kennedy Toole's A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES, which will roll film next spring for Miramax Films."
I don't love the book as much as most people do -- couldn't get through the passages of Reilly's writing at all -- but wonder if this might work. Kinda.
Any enthusiasm I have is due to the involvement of Green, whose George Washington is fantastic on a good many levels. But that film was the culmination of a couple of short-film rough drafts (see the Criterion DVD for the illuminating lineage) and I wonder if he (or anyone) can pull this off. Thoughts? |
