Salvia Divinorum to become Illegal?

'A bill introduced in Congress on October 10, seeks to make the Mazatec ceremonial plant Salvia divinorum and its active principle, salvinorin A, the next outlawed drugs under federal law. Termed "The Hallucinogen Control Act of 2002," HR 5607 seeks to place the plant Salvia divinorum and salvinorin A into Schedule I (the most restrictive schedule) of the federal Controlled Substances Act.'

I found this on Disinfo.com. Although most Barbelithers (myself included) reside in the U.k, we'll probably get our own 'Hallucinogen control act' pretty soon. Does this worry anyone? Will there be a 'Legalise it!' campaign for such an obscure drug as Salvia? Will driving Salvia underground give it more appeal? All these answers and more next week on Barbelith....

Repeat after me: the Head Shop is not about drugs x 10. If this is to be a thread about the political reasons for and ramifications of criminalising salvia, then it wants moving to the Switchboard. If it's to be about salvia's consciousness-raising properties, then it probably wants to go in the Magic...
