Does anyone else read this? 'Kay. Look, see? It seems to me that this Johnny Ryan is a stand-up guy. He keeps swell company. So I'm guessing that he is not as truly fucked as this book might, out of context, depict him to be. Now, I think it's funny at least some of the time, in a head-shakingly, "Oh my dear sweet lord above..." kinda way, but then my sense of humor can v. often tend towards those disturbed extremes. Seeing the humor and absurdity in the most horrible things life has to offer and whatnot. However, although I think these sick-and-twisted funnies and sometimes share w/friends of like temperament, I would have a very hard time indeed sharing these things w/the world at large. 'Twould be a purgation of sorts, but at the potential cost of adding to the accumulation of bad shit in the world. Ryan seems to have fans, though, among comicdom's best and brightest. Despite reservedly liking this stuff, I find the distinct lack of outrage towards Ryan's work a little disconcerting. Am I missing something somewhere? I'll not rule this out as a possibility... |
