I came.
I stayed because I felt a sense of belonging. Whether this is justified or not, I don’t know. I felt this from the beginning, but I think there is a strand of thought (as evinced by the citizens or tourist thread) which requires a certain level of posts or input to gain acceptance in this site.
I’ve never been the most prolific of posters and I think my self-acceptance in this site has led to a certain amount of complacence (on my part) when it comes to posting. I feel I have nothing to prove in any arguments that emerge (this comes from my beliefs as to the ephemeral nature of opinions).
I know that some of the old timers miss the cut and thrust of some of the more intense arguments that defined this board in its early days. However I feel that the nature of this board in its present state represents a coming together of the members, as a community (hence the greater activity in the conversation and the greater number of “hugs” threads). I hope that the high quality of argument on topics/issues continues, but with participation of members (old and new) who feel fully a part of this community (this place is more than just a board). |
