Recommend Me Some Electro-Goth

Music, that is. I'm searching an electro-goth band with a female singer which voice was a sensual, ethereal. Like if Ennya was darker or the Cranes were electronica.

Since I can't describe it weel enough and (thankfully) can't record myself singing either, I'd be very pleased if you people could recommend me bands fitting the description that were around in the early nineties. I've listened to some music from this band on goth nights at local clubs I used to almost 10 years ago, but never got the name right.

Maybe we can discover interesting stuff while we're at it. Thanks in advance.

You might be thinking of the Cocteau Twins? You won't find a more sensual, ethereal voice. Their earlier stuff had a certain spiteful electro beat to it, Goths liked it.

Garlands is an album of their most dirty, atomized guitar tones, electro beats and manic / beautiful voice.

Otherness is an ep of more chilled-out stuff, produced by the bloke from Seefeel, and it's 4ucking gorgeous.

Treasure's also worth checking out as it's problee got the kinda beats and bass you're looking for too.

I think you might be looking for a band called 'Faithful Dawn' (even if you're not they're worth a mention). They were a two piece (guitars, programmed backing track and singer front woman).

Apoptygma Bezerk (can't remember if it's Beserk or Bezerk) don't have a regular female singer, but they do sometimes features female vocals. I'm not sure if they're early enough for you, but if you've heard that particular band/track while out during the past four years it might be them.

I can think of more popular darkwave bands from recent years but generally they have male front men.

Darkwave. Snerk. Bring me my Tarantella Serpentine album of burnished gold.

Lush weren't really goth, but they sound a bit like your description. Likewise Some My Bloody Valentine.

Do you have a snippet of lyrics?

Do you mean *really* electro-sounding, or with jangly guitars
(which was very early '90s)? Funeral Party, on Scream Records, and
Miranda Sex Garden are the latter.

And, of course, Dead Can Dance. Nowadays, Lisa Gerrard does
soundtracks like The Gladiator, since Enya has evidently retired.

Collide is pretty good.

Rasputina might be worth a listen... some electronica, but more of a goth/punk feel than Cocteau Twins. They're definitely some twisted girls!

YYYYYYAAAAAAAAHHHH!

Rollo Kim, you got it right! It's THE COCTEAU TWINS - GARLANDS (the title track itself). Man, curiosity almost killed me on that one.

Sorry for not replying earlier, but I was trying samples at cdnow.com from all the bands you and the guys from the Opi8 forum recommended me. Then I decided to try the most obvious ones I had passed before ("Of course it can't be the Cocteau Twins...") and - bang - GARLANDS was right on the spot.

I'm checking if there is any cover for this song just to make sure that's the version, but I can see that old self of mine dancing in the middle of those goth kids (who always thought I was a shoegazer) thinking the 90s could never end. =D

Thank you all for helping; I liked some bands I have never heard of, like Collide. Mucho karka kandies to all of you! I know it feels stupid for such a mundane thing, but wishing others well is never too much and I'm happier now.

Cheers!

Cool! There was a 'tribute album' by a load of dodgy bands, haven't heard it, hope I never do. Do yourself a favour and go for the original!
