Predictably enough, when I saw this book (by Francis Bryan) in a shop, I couldn't resist its lure... a sequel (if you hadn't already guessed) to Treasure Island...
Just finished it today. For (ostensibly) a kids' book, it ain't half bad. Written in a pastiche-Stevenson style, it relates the tale of why Jim Hawkins returns to Treasure Island seven years later... it has intrigue, romance, the high seas, and above all, PIRATES. (Or should I say "gentlemen of fortune".)
And Long John Silver remains one of the most wonderful characters ever put to print.
Has anyone else read this?
Or should I just grow the fuck up? |
