I've been having fun lately with old Mars stuff.

See, from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen annotations site, I found this: Lieutenant Gulliver Jones of Mars, a fine pulp story.

But then I finished it. And started prowling around the site.

It's... it's full of stars.

I'm finally going to catch up with the Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom books!

It's an amazing trove of classic literature - and their definition of "classic" includes liberal helpings of "pulp." Mmm. Tasty.
Sax Rohmer and Franklin Delano Roosevelt sit right next to each other in the author list. Lord Dunsany, Arthur Machen, Machiavelli... L. Frank Baum (The Oz books! They're INSANE! Read this one NOW!), Lucretius, Mark Twain, Lao Tzu....

I thought Bartleby was cool, and it's more searchable than this one, but still... *this* is a collection.

Check out all the stuff under author "Unknown". Beowulf, the Federalist Papers, the Nibelunglied, Njal's Saga, Popular Science Monthly Vol. 86, and on, and on. Wow.

The bastards!

Charles MacKay's "Extraordinary Popular
Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" is
also online I see...essential reading
during and after the dotcom bubble. My
favorite scheme was for "a company for
carrying on an undertaking of great
advantage, but nobody to know what it is."
The promoter sold 5000 pound worth of shares
and decamped to the Continent that night.

Martian women are sweet, but eggs are forever off the menu. Deja Thoris is already married, but her sister Deja News, well, nothing gets by *her*! I got a million of 'em! Hey, is this an audience or a herd of thoats? I've seen a livelier crowd on Pew Mogel's slabs! Ah, the h__l with it; I'm dying here...I might as well be dying on a Civil War battlefield...(makes wavy flashback signs with hands and vanishes).
