Kissing Songs

I'm helping organise a Spin The Bottle Bloc for the upcoming WTO protests in Sydney, and we need a soundtrack of songs about kissing. So far the list is:

Kiss Kiss by Holly Vallance
Kiss by Prince
French Kissing in the USA by Debbie Harry

So what else - obviously, the preference is for cheesy pop (i.e., don't suggest Sixpence None The Richer) but we will settle for quality if there's not enough trash.

Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Back Seat (Huggin' and Kissin' with Fred) by Paul Evans & the Curls*
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus by, erm, whoever

You'd think trying to remember tacky songs about kissing would be the easiest thing in the world, but I'm really struggling. These next two are quality, I'm afraid.

Kiss Me, Baby by The Beach Boys
Kiss Me Again by Dinosaur

*although I'm nearly certain that the version I'm thinking of was by an all-female group

That Sixpence NTR song really is class, isn't it? It should be insufferably twee, but somehow it isn't--it actually captures that first-crush feeling, I think.

You want cheesy? Forget Prince's "Kiss"--go for the Tom Jones/Art of Noise version of same. So far over the top it's in orbit, baby.

Lips Like Sugar - Echo & the Bunnymen
I Kissed a Girl - Jill Sobule
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - Specimen
The Kiss - The Cure
Kiss - Dean Martin (there's be a version by Marilyn Monroe, too)
Summer Kisses, Winter Tears - Elvis (or the Julee Cruise version)
Kiss and Tell - Bryan Ferry
Besame Mucho
Kiss Me Baby - The Beach Boys
Kiss Me Baby - Ray Charles
Kiss Me Deadly - generation X
Kiss Me Deadly - Lita Ford
Kiss Me Goodbye - Petula Clark
I Feel So Smoochy - Nat King Cole
Lips of Wine - Andy Williams
And Then He Kisssed Me - The Crystals
Til I Kissed You - The Everly Bros.
I Don't Wanna Be Kissed By anyone But You - Doris Day

...and a wartime music-hall ditty called "Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major," which sounds just the thing.

Some of these are probably better than what you're looking for, actually.

"Kiss Me (With Your Mouth)" by Stephen "Tin-Tin" Duffy, original Duran Duran frontman. Absolute pop-perfection, or maybe that's just the 80s Brummie nostalgia talking.
"Kiss Me Honey Honey Kiss Me" - Shirley Bassey

Kit-Cat Club

Er, 'Crucifix Kiss' by the Manics... helllp meee...

A Kiss to Build a Dream On by Louis Armstrong.

Seems like that one would be especially appropriate, although not too cheesy. He also did a version of Kiss of Fire. So did Rosemary Clooney, I think.

I didn't notice Yoko Ono's Kiss Me Love (or whatever it's called) off the "Double Fantasy" album.

I would recommend 'K-I-S-S-I-N-G' by Nas, but it is unbelievably bad.

And Jack Fear, have you gone insane? Six Pence None The Richer? Waaaaah!

Mighty Joe Flyboy asks, in anguished tones: Jack Fear, have you gone insane? Six Pence None The Richer? Waaaaah!

I know, I know—I didn't want to like the song, I really didn't—but I just can't help myself. It's so well-structured, so crushingly genuine in its naivete—a flawless little gem of pure pop winsomeness, and I will defend it to the death.

I really liked their version of "There She Goes," too, almost as much as the La's original.

Possibly because "Save All Your Kisses for Me" was performed by Brotherhood of Man, was it not? But the Kenickie cover version is far mightier.

"Save all your kisses for me...even though you're only THREEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH"

Nice.

A butch dyke friend of mine is much enamoured of "Kiss Me", but mainly because she wants to bone Leigh Nash. And she likes Steeleye Span, so basically gets a bye.

To compare the cover of "There She Goes" with the original, however, is tantamount to facefucking my dead grandma.

Save All Your Kisses was ver Brotherhood's trouser-belt dance Paedovision entry, but it seems that The Nolans also recorded a version of it. The Nolans... could it be? Could it possibly sound any worse than the original? *shudder*

However, we've yet to reach the absolute nadir of kissing songs. I hereby add to the list:

The.

Sealed With a Kiss - if possible, the Teisco Del Rey version, with the cheesy French-accented reading of the lyrics in the middle.

Think if you're going to go for absolute awfulness and kiss=in fun, the spirit of the Nolans should go with you. Hence nominating that version.

How about:

Kisses on the Wind - Neneh Cherry

oh, and I found this, which although icky, might be helpful - kissing songs list

Mary Chapin Carepenter's 'Shut Up And Kiss Me' is gorgeous...

Oooo! She also did the pop version of Lucinda Williams' Passionate Kisses, which is a fun song.
