Hot on the heels of the JLA animated series, come the kid version.

Comics2Film:
"Cartoon Network and Kids’ WB! will follow a new young breed of superheroes as famed Boy Wonder Robin leads fellow young teens Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire and Raven in the all-new high-adventure series Teen Titans. Slated to debut on Cartoon Network in 2003, followed by broadcast on Kids’ WB!, this half-hour animated action series is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation under the guidance of Emmy Award-winner Glen Murakami. Teen Titans is based on the popular DC Comics comic book characters. Teen Titans, set in a future of intergalactic strife and interplanetary battles, features five teen superheroes each with special powers, led by the Boy Wonder Robin. This group unites to form a defensive force to protect the Earth from a new generation of villains. An eclectic group, their powers complement each other so that when they band together, they become a superb fighting force. Their personalities, on the other hand, often clash. Discovering how to control their powers, these Teen Titans must learn to work and grow as a team while dealing with the trials and tribulations of being teenagers."

I think it sounds great. Especially since everybody on JLA is so stuffy and serious (except for the Flash). This crew looks like total fun, especially Beast Boy (which I always thought was a much better name than Changeling). Starfire's out of control sexy costume is suitably toned down to only Britney level public nudity, which is probably a good move. Cyborg looks... complicated. And I'm guessing that's not Dick Grayson in the Robin tights.

I wonder how they're going to handle Raven, the sorcerous daughter of a witch and the devil (more or less).

"Teen Titans, set in a future of intergalactic strife and interplanetary battles..."

We're not dealing with any established TV or comics continuity here, folks. Get over it and move on with your lives.

No, Jack Fear. I refuse. The animated Teen Titans show is as far I intend for my life to go. I will NOT get over it.

At this rate, we can look forward to Doom Patrol Adventures anytime soon. Beast Boy first appeared in the sixties run of DP as the adopted son of Elastic Girl and, um, Mentallo.

Quite, Gridley.

Tim Drake, he's the other one. I think I may go and boast at my local boozer about suplying that info.

Tomorrow...

Drake. Right. I always forget his name.

Hopefully, they'll do the thing where Starfire's hair becomes an infinitely long trail behind her as she flies. That could look very cool animated...

That's right.

Gotta say this looks sorta cool. I dug the Titans when I was a kid, and am looking forward to seeing this, especially since I was disappoined with the JLA show. JLA is just too serious and dull. I like these designs; they're vibrant with an interesting mix of anime and newspaper strip influences. Robin looks just like Calvin, fercrissakes! I like that.

So this has been out for a while... what does everybody think?

I personally think it has the best theme song ever!

Damn, I think this could be one of the best animated series I've ever seen.

It's like a Japanese tribute to the American superhero cartoons of the 60s. It's just brilliant. Visually stunning obviously, but also great stories (so far). Can't wait to see more...

Just a quick FYI: this enjoyable little Teen Titans Shockwave Beat 'Em Up has been doing the rounds recently.

I quite like it as well. It didn't follow suit with the Justice League or Bats or even Static Shock (all of which are very very good). Instead, it paved its own path and a groovy path it is. It completely ignores the ropey origins of the comic and just goes straight into adventure. 'Sisters' is the closest we've gotten to a backstory so far and it was an interesting retread of the first 10 odd issues of the comic fight with Blackfire (though I dearly would like to see an epic two parter which I hope we'll get).

I hear that the team wants to do other teen heroes and that Aqualad will be in the first season. I'd quite like to see Speedy and Wonder Girl would be interesting, leaving Kid Flash a bit redundant as Wally is already in the JLA.

I'd cream my shorts if they did a Doom Patrol cartoon. I would bet that Dini and crew would like to do it as well. ROG for the old 60's series even made an appearance in the Justice Guild episode. Doom Patrol would rock under his care. I dearly love that comic so much... I think I'll go marry it. Later.

I haven't seen this yet, though I've seen the trailers more times than I should have, but I just can't help thinking "bandwagon".

I've probably been biased by X-Men 90210 being such absolute cock. This could, I admit, be great, and the "They save the world! They eat pizza! Ha ha! Do you see? It is a new and funny juxtaposition!" trailers may not be representative.

Mister Six, whom all the girls
11:09 / 12.08.03
Yeah, I'm with you there.

I like the trailers up until the tagline, which kills it.

But I'm not much fun, either, so it might be a willingness to laugh at yourself that I lack.

The cartoon does have a lot of anime styles which you will either like or hate. I'm still adapting to it. It reminded me immediately of what I'd call 'round eye manga' where a Westerner tries to imitate manga styles. Friend of mine used to do it in High School and I hated it then. Chyna Cluggston-Major (canna be bothered with the spelling) does it now and I still hate it, but I'm not much fun. There are plenty of readers who love Blue Monday and have a great laugh reading it.

Also, the characters are very direct and immediate, which is nice. Right away, you get who they are and seeing characters living a teenage lifestyle as superheroes is actually entertaining here as it can be dull in the comic.

My only word of warning in this cartoon's defense (and feel free to disagree) is that while the first episode is a bit weak, the following two are much better.

They save the world! They eat pizza!

Surely that's the premise of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

The Cartoon Network site here is fun, although I'm not to sure about the high pitched, young, female, japanese voice that states "Teen Titans" each time you go on to another part of the site.

Teen Tih-tans!

Uh, I've been watching it today, in-between E! Entertainment TV, and... it's okay. It's as good as Static Shock. It's better than Teenage X-Men. It didn't make my socks fly off, even if I was wearing any. It's definitely more anime than the preceding.

I just saw this for the first time, and I actually laughed out loud several times. The pseudo-anime animation is great - it really works.

This episode show cased the two females; I'm not familiar with these characters, but the interplay between the two was fun to watch.

Gotta see more.

That song kinda annoys me -- but I've only heard it a few times. I just remember thinking "This isn't really the theme song? Gotta be a joke, right??"

But I trust Imp and I'll have to check it out when it starts showing on regular TV Nov. 1st (Kids WB, just saw the announcement on some comic site) - I don't have cable.

Oh no

Teen Titans is my guilty pleasure show par excellence, mainly because of: a) Raven's voice b) Ron Perlman as Deathstroke, sorry, Slade and c) Raven's voice d) Wil Wheaton as Aqualad. Did I mention that Raven's voice gives me shivers (the good kind), and the voice actress also plays Kaede Smith in Killer 7. And is hot.
Anyway, Titans getting cancelled. Sucks.

Phex, Tara Strong voices a lot of cartoons, but you should really check out "Fillmore!" if you ever see it around.

Not only is it a brilliant toon (picture Law & Order set in a wacky junior high school), but her character--goth safety patrol detective Ingrid Third--truly out-ravens Raven.

(Oh... and damn it! At least they're going out on a high note.)
