"Monsters in my pocket" as aid for devotional magic

Anyone here remember those old (I think it was Mattell) "Monster in my Pocket" toys from years ago (for those who don't here's a link: http://www.raumhafen.de/galerie/rubber_guys/mimp/)

Anyway, after reading a section from one of Hine's books about devotional magic I decided to make a shrine for Ganesha. Since no shops in my area sell statues of Ganesha I just decided to use one of my old monster in my pocket toys: Ganesha was featured in series 2, so I just attatched my pink one to a base and put it on my bookshelf (god of scribes hee hee) and that was my shrine for it.

Actually, there are quite a few deities in that toy series one could use: Kali, Coatlicue, etc. I don't think Mattell intended these things to be used for chaos magic but hey, that's life.

ack, my mistake, it was Matchbox, not Mattell. So sorry.

There's a publishing house around here that's issuing a series on mythology, and they give with each issue a 5-inch statue of several gods. I'm making a small colletion, I haveZzeus, Horus and Anubis so far. They come with some acessories and a throne, it's really cool.

Is that the same company that is doing the "Ganesha in a Box" and "Green Man in a Box" sets I've been finding at bookstores?

Hey, I remember Monsters In My Pocket. D'you know you can paint them up with acrylics?

heh... sorcery evocation. One little monster enforces the will, another to bring knowledge. Just hold that intent while you paint 'em up.

... and seal with a durable varnish. So Moot It Be.

Well, I've never tried painting mine, but it sounds like a good idea...

Though I think my pink Ganesha is so cute. Wish they would have had one for Pan, but the large cock and tits may of scared the kiddies.

I would imagine that pewter miniatures (a la Warhammer) could be used for a similar purpose. You might even be able to use some to form the material basis for a servitor.

I've always wondered if one could build a physical version of a servitor using LEGO pieces...

i started building a servitor; used a LEGO mindstorms kit, a LEGO camera and a few other plastic pieces for the physical representation... never finished the body, though. the idea mutated faster than i could build it (and i was a little too ambitious with the design, had to scale it back some).
