Absolutely, le fly. I am responsible, in part, for the shift on this thread, but it's more entertaining this way.
Yes, the LL and Beenie singles are pretty poor - I was unaware they were Neptunes hits, as they didn't have that recognisable snare'n'bass, which seems (possibly) to have reached its' apotheosis on the new Usher (I still cannot believe I'm saying this - Usher) single.
And yet, I think some wrongheaded youngsters might have got the idea that Nickelback, Muddle of Pudd and the like are somehow more real/better than Nelly & Co. - because they're more white, and have guitars, etc. Someone ought to go around schools informing them that this is incorrect, and they (if this is the case) are in fact their dad listening to Cream instead of Motown - oops.
The Neptunes are fucking great.
Who produced that awesome Lisa Lopes (R.I.P.) single, 'Block Party', anyone? Also, credit must go to Timbaland and Missy for paving the way, and ONLY redefining pop and swingbeat (or whatever it is you call it these days) along the road.
And Brandy 'What About Us' - Pete Rock/Darkchild, is it? That's what it seems to say at the end, anyway. |
