I'd be interested in what magickal books people like, or go back to a lot, and why? I read somewhere that you only really need a dozen or so occult books and if you refer to these regularly, you'll continue to discover new ideas, subtleties and inspiration in the text. What would yours be, and why?
(This doesn't have be confined to non-fiction either- moderator, move to Books if you want)
One from me to start:
The Black Goddess and the Sixth Sense by Peter Redgrove: I like this because the author writes from his personal experience, about how he solved his own depressions and mood swings by relating more profoundly to his environment. He combines scienctific information and magicial thinking into a synthesis that gets away from that whole "science is the enemy" perspective, and goes from his own experience to saying something quite profound about the way life is lived in the West and what we might be missing. As the author is a poet, it's also beautifully written, its packed with scientific snippets and facts, all of which add up to a really inspired piece of writing. He gives some practical exercises too. |
