My PS2 plays green.

OK, I tried to play a DVD on my PS2 and everything white went flourescent green. Like a fool I left the instruction booklet at home but my housemate wants to watch Lord of the Rings before Thursday. I've been through system configuration and it's not telling me shit. The DVD says it's compatible with the player on the back of the box and I'm hoping my colour problem can be resolved without me going out and buying the disc to make the thing multi-region or the remote control for the thingamijigimy.

Any solutions here?

Right. Solution #1: get RegionX from HMV for somewhere.

Basically, it's the lead you've got; try googling for advice. The PS2 outputs that green stuff through an RGB Scart lead. Probably the easiest solution is getting a new, proper quality scart lead - should have a switch to flick between RGB (which is good for games but green for DVDs) and the nonRGb Scart, S-Video I think (which is good for DVDs).

It's Sony's lame attempts at copy-protection. Things to bear in mind: expenditure will fix this. Region X fixes it full stop. Also, the remote control (sony one) comes with the latest version of Sony's DVD player software, which might be a good idea... though I don't think it'll fix it. Sounds like the classic Scart lead thingy.

I think that's accurate... might have got RGB/composite video wrong way around. But it's a known problem, and it's easily solvable.

yay! Janina started a thread for me!

So is it possible to get stuff that makes PS2's play any region DVD's, and will it atleast play all region 2 DVD's?

Yes it is and here's a bit about what you'll need.

This is not exclusively the only way, there are other packages available but this is about as cheap as I've seen it.

In terms of playing ALL Dvd's? I'm not sure there's any manufacturer who would swear to that. The dvd format is changing all the time and whilst 99.9 percent of players will play 99.9 percent of discs, there's always gonna be that 1 problematic disc.....

Hmm. OK well I have a scart lead that is specifically for a ps2 (or other games systems) so I guess that might be the problem. I'll google. Thanks hon.

Multi-region DVD's. Go to HMV or virgin and look in the accessories area, if the disc isn't there ask behind the desk. Basically you get to play US DVD's and can still sell your playstation if you get bored with it later.

Janina: no, your Scart lead is the right one... it's just it's not necessarily wired correctly for watching DVDs. You can get "high quality PS2 leads" that can alter their wiring so it's right both ways - because in general, RGB is far nicer than component video. But the PS2 chucks out green down one of the two, I think.
