Tuesday 24th - If I sober up this week, I may die.

ONLY NICE THINGS
23:03 / 23.09.02
I'm sleep-deprived, I'm deeply disturbed and I am, as ever, the most delightful company.

Lurid and I have decided that tomorrow might be a very good opportunity for pintage or pinotage, depending on your tastes. The Princess Louise, High Holborn, from, say, 7:30 on, all invited and we reserve the right to tear out your black, black hearts.

But, you know, in a sexy way.

May be on for this, if another day of relentless flat-hunting hasn't caused me to plunge sharpened teaspoons into my eyes.

Where's the Princess Louise, again? I've never been there.

ONLY NICE THINGS

The Princess Louise is on High Holborn. Essentially, out of Hoborn tube station, cross the road, carry on past the Sainsbury's metro west towards Oxford Street. On the left-hand side of the road (ie the side you will most likely be on, unless you have crossed the road in a really baroque fashion), just after the HSBC branch, is a charmingly unpleasant pub called the Princess Louise. We normally gather upstairs if it is open, or otherwise somewhere in the spacious public bar.

Feeling weepy at the moment, as I've said goodbye to a good friend. But drinks at the Princess Louise will be good.

But I thought you'd found a flat, Ganesh? Zocher? Or was that when you got screwed? Anyway. I'll be there.

That would've been us getting screwed.

You mean you people need drinkies enough to walk home - the tube strike starts at 8. I commend you!

Yeah I'd be up for a drink but the whole no tube thing will probably cause major problems, of course there are still buses but I'm not quite sure of the area.

Haus about we all give each other a big lovely huggle?
07:56 / 24.09.02
Oh....cockfosters.

The harsh reality of industrial action bore down on me as I woke from a nervy slumber around 7am, plagued by dreams of carnivorous flowers singing doo-wop in squeaky, squeaky voices.

This may be a bit of a killer. I can probably make it back to mine from Holborn comparatively easily, but I can see people may be reluctant to come out, especially those who would normally be enjoying the Picadilly Line's fast and friendly service into and out of Holborn...

Perhaps a reevaluation of our position?

I know of a castle in the clouds.

How about somewhere near Kings Cross since you can get to anywhere by bus from there (can't you?)

I have no idea actually - carry on.

Bear there are definately buses that can get us home from near there.

We can either get a 59 from Kingsway (street that runs past Holborn Tube Station) or wander down to Waterloo Bridge or the bottom of Trafalgar Square, which sounds a long way a way but isn't really.

And I really have no excuse not to be there tonight as I work 5 min down the road, so I will be there to make up for my crap non-attendance on Saturday night.

See you there!

Bear - no tube = zillions of angry, fighty people trying to get on buses. I had a hell of a job getting on a bus last time there was a strike - 4 hours after it ended. I'm drinking at home tonight I think!

Errr .... took too long between postings

Bear I was refering to us getting home from Holborn

Ummm, I guess where it all happens depends on the majority opinion.

I'll keep an eye to this thread and see what happens!

I *may* be up for it. I was going to try not to drink today, but...
ahh fuck it. I'm getting a car later this week so I won't be able to drink then, cos I'll be playing with it, so- transport allowing, I'll try and make it.

I often wonder how many braincells I can lose before I start to realise a difference.

Anyway, I like to avoid the tube if I can and the Princess Louise is ok. I'm sure I can fihgt my way onto a bus.

Yeah I'd be willing to get the bus home from Holborn (thanks for the info Angel). Being that Friday is payday and I still seem to have money left (the benefit of having your parents stay for the weekend).

I find the best thing to do when there's a tube strike on is to hang around until after 9pm before heading home on the bus. As a bus traveller I resent all the greenhorn tube passengers getting on and not understanding how to pay or where to get off.

The flesh in willing for once, but the whole hassle of finding a suitable length of piping, sanding it down into the crude imitation of a sawn-off shotgun and using it to commandeer a car to get me home again afterwards... I really don't need that mid-week y'know?

Besides, I'm developing a strange infatuation with Trevor Eve.

Is that a reference to television?

Mmm. Don't think I'll be on for this, after all. I really don't fancy The Voyage Home to Willesden afterwards...

Can I recommend the Transport for London's Journey Planner? If you click on the "more options" button, it can even find you a non-tube route.

I don't think I'll be able to make it either, forgot my bank card - what an arse.

Have fun.

May make it, or may not. I intend to try, though, but premature drunkenness may make it tricky.

Well, Lurid, Angel, Flyboy and I will be there, possibly Stoatie, Ganesh if he can face the bus trip back (which really isn't that far, but leave it aside), and Orr on the possibles list, it sounds like a opassable meet - see you there about 7:30. Anyone else, do come along.

After drinking way too much last night, I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself now. Apologies to all concerned.

But it was good to see people.

Now I really am going.

Haus- Trevor Eve is the dreamy chief of the Cold Case Squad on BBC1's 'Waking the Dead' where he spends a lot of time driving round with the only other bloke in the team while all the women hang out in the mortuary looking in microscopes with very intense expressions. It's great!
