King/Straub- Black House

Thought I'd read something sleazy, cheesy and easy while off work. So Stephen King and Peter Straub's "Black House" it is.

So far (about half-way through) I'm impressed- it's well-written, fairly sinister, and without quite as much of the down-home folksiness that has plagued King for about the last 15 years and more often than not robbed him of the ability to actually scare people. (Sure, there's some, but...)

Also, as a sequel to "The Talisman", I was worried that it was about 17 years ago that I read that, and couldn't remember a fucking thing about it other than that I'd enjoyed it. That's not proved a problem so far- they seem to have done a pretty good job of reminding you of stuff without info-dumping, and also making it a decent stand-alone novel.

The only thing that's bugging me is- it's Twin Peaks. Not that that's a bad thing, but surely Twin Peaks was Twin Peaks already?

As I say, I'm only half-way through, and it could easily surprise me yet. But right now, even though I'm enthralled and enjoying it muchly, I keep expecting someone to say "the owls are not what they seem" or some such...

What! They've written a sequal to The Talisman! Woo Hoo I am so there. I stopped reading anything written by King a long time ago, apart from the Dark Tower series which in many ways is set in similar territory to the Talisman. Cool, more books to read after Cryptnomoicon.
Btw does his working with Straub means that all the dross that should be edited out of King books is in this case?

If you're a fan of the Dark Tower series You must read The Dark House.
Although I found most of the book seemed as it was written by Straub with the last 1/4 by King.
