Monster Birthday

It's Snapping Turtle's birthday in a few weeks, and she's told me that she wants (amongst other things):

- Kipper's Monster, by Mick Inkpen.

- Monsters Inc, on video.

Yeah, she's a big kid: that's why I love her. I just thought that the possibility of getting her a hat-trick of monster presents was too good to pass up.

Your mission, therefore, is to select the third monster themed present to complete this list. It has to be something with "Monster" in the title, and preferably be extremely cute, cos' that's the kind of thing she likes.

The working title for this movie was Monster.

I really liked this movie, but I'd sugest you rent before you buy, as it's not for everyone.

One of the Where the Wild Things Are toys from Todd McFarlane toys. And of course the book if she hasn't read or have a copy of Maurice Sendak's classic.

REM's Monster
some sort of "Monsters of Rock" or "Monsters of Wrestling" or "Monsters of Accounting"-type video
A Universal Monsters action figure, or maybe Philip Glass & Kronos Quartet's new score for the original Bela Lugosi version of Dracula, which is of course a Universal Monster
Any issues of Stray Bullets that the character "Monster" appears in
Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry in Monster's Ball
A Cookie Monster doll (also works for Elmo, Grover, Telly, Rosita, Zoe, or nearly any other Sesame Street character, but only Cookie has "Monster" in his commonly used name)
any album by Monster Magnet (I recommend Power Trip)
A Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual

Oh, I could do this all day.

There's is a thread featuring this somewhere here but I can't find it.
Bah!

BTW, "Snapping turtle" is a fine, fine name.

I'd go with the "Where The Wild Things Are" myself... toys OR book.
Or Moomins... I know they're kind of nice, but technically they're trolls, making them monsters?
Or Bagpuss. Not monster-related at all. Just GOOD.

This is cheating. Where's the word 'monster' in any of these names? As long as we're just taking a monster theme, though, I suggest you buy one of the films mentioned in this thread.

This trumpet playing Cookie Monster looks pretty damned cute, and has monster in the title. Plus it is neither a book nor a video, so you've got a nice varied trilogy.

Alternatively, I don't know if you can still get them, but Toys R Us used to stock a range of small, plasticy things called 'Monster in My Pocket'.

Erm, does she like Monster Munch?

Btw, whist googling for 'fluffy monster', I found this, which is a brilliant page full of
kids' monsters. The drawings are ace (if you ignore the first couple). I particularly like number 5.

[threadrot] Sorry, but I've got to plug that kids' monster site again. I tell you, THIS is genius:

"When you stare at it's hair it looks as if there are spiders
laying their eggs." - Mandy

How many adult authors could come up with something as weird and creepy as that? And this would make a great first line in a novel:

"My monster is blue. He loves to eat baked potatoes. He also likes to eat girls." - Jason

Some form of cuddly Cookie Monster is winning hands down, right now. Now, would any of the London 'Lithers happen to know of a shop in our nation's capital that definitely sells them? I could do with some reconnaisance before I come up on Saturday, cos' I'm lazy. Oh, and I'll have none of this "X shop probably sells them." Probably won't save my tired tootsies from trekking round endless toyshops.

Ooh, there's a cute children's book called "The Monster at the End of this Book" featuring Grover. Spoilers... (shut up, someone'd complain if I didn't say it)...

You flip through, page by page, and Grover pleads with you not to turn another page coz he's scared of the monster, he puts up brick walls, vaults, etc, and at the end of the book, the monster, is of course, him. Almost philosophical.

Mazarine hit it on the head with the Grover book. One of my favorite and most read as a kid. Also the cookie tree with Cookie Monster is good too. Think I need to go get them for myself and my godchild...

Hamleys, dude. Hamleys sells everything. Their website lets you search for specific toys, so you can check.

She's just told me that she wants a cuddly Sully (from Monsters Inc), which completes the trilogy. Cheers anyway, guys. Good to know the counterculture is still up for a bit of cutesy consumerism.

Let it die, Randy. These people don't deserve such wonders.

Mazarine, that is one of my all-time favourite books! Have you seen the sequel? It has Grover and Elmo. I used to read that sucker for an encore during storytime at the bookstore I worked at. I used to do the voices and get the kids to scream real loud. When it would get to the end, I'd make them to flip the page and I'd refuse to look out of fear. They got a big kick out of being more brave than a 6 foot 1, 190 lb adult. Ah, happy days. Thanks for jump starting the memories.

exp, if you don't mind doubling up on the Monsters Inc. merch, then you might want to check out the doll based on the one that Mike has in the movie. It's entirely the second cutest thing in the world after my cats.
