Twenty-five. Why do you ask?
On topic, I sincerely doubt that a US withdrawal from Saudi Arabia would end terrorism against the US, given that the US continues to support Israel in their conflict with the Palestinians. In all probability, there is *no* degree of capitulation on the US's part which would end terrorism against it, short of total collapse.
It bothers me to no end that this logjam exists, that there seems to be no available permanent solution other than for one side to kill as many people on the other side as it can. I'd like nothing better than to see an effective method of international arbitration prevail over the tried and true practice of warfare, but it would be something of a catch-22 to put it into operation--no one would use it unless they thought they could trust the results, and without anyone using it, there would be no results to trust. It's a dark irony indeed that individuals within civilized nations settle their disputes more or less reasonably in courts of law while the nations themselves persist in going at it like the Hatfields and the McCoys.
Which is only vaguely related to this thread, I suppose, but if you listen to enough NPR and attend enough lectures on international law, this sort of thing gets into your head and refuses to leave. |
