Years ago, Philip José Farmer wrote a story called "The Jungle Rot Kid on the Nod," asking the literary question, "What if Tarzan of the Apes had been written not by Edgar Rice Burroughs, but by William S. Burroughs?" The story itself was a clever enough pastiche, but the premise itself is the punchline, pretty much.
So here's a game along the same lines, based on chance similarities of names, match a pop star to someone else's backing band.
For instance: what if The Band had begun their career backing not Canadian blues shouter Ronnie Hawkins, but girl-group diva Ronnie Spector?
Bonus points if the combo is something you'd actually want to listen to.
A few more to start the ball rolling:
Nick Drake and the Bad Seeds
Elvis Presley and the Attractions
Aimee Mann's Earth Band
Ziggy Marley and the Spiders From Mars
