I was just off out for the day when I heard some great news on the radio, and a quick jaunt out to the Guardian confirmed it. Baroness Young is dead! For the non-brits, or those who didn't know Bvaroness Young always campaigned in the House of Lords against equality for gays in any form, and she fought hard to keep Section 28 on the books here.

I know I shouldn't be happy that someone has died, but she was abhorrent.

'Hag'? Actually I thought she was rather handsome, not that her appearance has got anything to do with her politics, which were odious. I've asked for my thread on this to be deleted, so I'll add here that I'm rather hoping the next attempt to abolish Section 28 will be successful.

"Hag" doesn't necessarily refer to appearance-- it has other connotations (think of "hag-ridden") for instance.

While I don't generally go around wishing people dead, I don't see why I shouldn't get a happy if somebody like this pops her clogs. The misery she helped to inflict on this country will live on long after her.

Thatcher HAS to hang on until my birthday... I got Mary Whitehouse last year, and I have to beat one of my mates who got Princess Margaret. A fucking royal! (I also got Thatcher resigning on my birthday a few years back. As a completist, I think it's only fair if she pops it on the same date.)

I have to agree with Mordant C@rnival - my liberal tendencies mean I generally don't wish people dead. I'd much rather them see the damage and suffering their views inflict on people. Still, one less closed mind less on the planet is no bad thing.

Thatcher is an irrelevance these days - Young was still active. Thatch is not even allowed to speak in public these days - which in some ways is a shame as she continually did more harm than good to the Tory cause.

Flowers: The Pope is still hanging in there polluting the world. How does he keep f*cking going? Every time he's on telly he looks like he's about to expire, yet he hasn't gone yet. Maybe his hate keeps him going?

Taking this a lot more seriously than a throwaway thread needs- Young has been around to see the damage her views caused. Only she looked upon them and saw them good.
