Has anyone seen it? Worth a rent? Or to avoid like the plaque?

Come on, what do YOU think?

Well I know what I think, but I'd rather fid ot what those who have seen it know they think. There have been some films where the sequel has been better than the first.

I thought it was a straight to video affair, of course that doesn't mean that'll necessarily be bad but I can't seem to think of an example where that wasn't the case?

I guess it depends on whether you liked the first one, to determine whether you'll like this one more.

I happen to really like the first film, so the very idea of the sequel even existing irritates me to no end.

The guys at my local video shop said that the sequel was unwatchable - awful in every respect.

There you go.

Oh, God I saw 15 mins of this piece of shit then turned it off.
Now I rented it cause I was in the mood for some crappy teen slasher rubbish (Bateman isn't in it, it's about some girl who met him once. and wants to be a better murderer than him). So, we have teen whining and nothing that has anything to do with the first film.
I think you should rent it, just to see how bad things can get.

Granted, I haven't seen it (nor do I have any intention to waste my time doing so), but come on... A direct to video sequel, w/none of the original cast members or, well, anyone who had anything to do w/the first movie. A slash-and-hack sequel to an intelligent and satirical horror film. William Fucking Shatner. I think the only level that this film would work on is as an extention of the empty character of Bateman to the whole of the movie. I just don't understand the point of this thing at all (although it must be said that, while I see absolutely no need for a sequel at all, I would've paid to see another two hours of Christian Bale's awesome performance as Bateman).

It seems to me that everyone who has posted on this thread is a canuck ( i think...) I rememmmber being an extra on the shoot at U of T, thinking, what a disaster...sigh.

Does this film even exist in the States?

I'm in the United States and I saw it, not in the theater, though. Blockbuster carries it. It has no real association with the movie itself. It's American Psycho for college students, down to the drastically simplified internal monologues. The movie was somewhat refreshing because you don't see female serial killers every day, and hearing about Patrick Bateman from a female perspective, a victim's no less, was something. But above all it was surface. Watch it for a giggle and some William Shatner.

Has anyone heard about The Rules of Attraction? It's another Brett Easton Ellis book turned movie, that stars Sean Bateman, little brother of our beloved American Psycho.

Not a 'Nuck, and yes, it's available in the states (unfortunadamente).

WOW! I'd not heard of this.

What an unspeakably bad idea for a film!

I must check it out.

Rules of Attraction is a far from perfect film, but definitely quite watchable. Word on the street is that Roger Avery is making two more Bret Easton Ellis films, one of which may or may not be mostly compiled from extra footage shot for the excellent "european vacation" scene in Rules of Attraction.

I haven't seen it yet, but it does seem to have more ground for existance than Freeway2: Confesions of a Trick-Baby
