Pulp.
So we went out to the park at midnight one last time.
Past the abandoned glasshouse stuffed full of dying palms.
Past the bandstand down to the boating lake.
And we swam in the moonlight for what seemed like hours, until we couldn't swim anymore.
And as we came out of the water we sensed a certain movement in the air, and we both shivered slightly and ran to collect our clothes.
And as we walked home we could hear the leaves curling and turning
brown on the trees, and the birds deciding where to go for Winter.
And the whole sound, the whole sound of Summer packing it's bags and preparing to leave town.

It's been my Birthday. which means that Summer must officially be winding down, and I could do with one final big Barbemeet before we all have to start wearing coats and get sniffling colds. Anyone up for something next weekend?

For some reason, that quote is making me almost tearful. Um, I have a nasty deadline but that notwithstanding, I'd be up for summat.

I'm away on the 7th, I could make late afternoon on the 8th, be nice to see a crowd of people before I go back to Cardiff actually! It was really cold today! SAD season on its way, hoo-fucking-ray.

Alas, I won't be able to make it. But I'll be sure to look after the summer until you get it back again.

Have a good one, though, Lada.

Sunday sounds good to me - I will probably be massively hungover and weekended out after celebrating the end of the SO's exams, but an afternoon in the pub (or preferably outside one, if we get some late summer sun) might be the ideal cure.

I'd like to get my vote for the Brick Lane area in early...

I may be at a (cough) VW festival... if not, I'm well up for it.

Sounds like a great idea Lada.

Sunday sounds good. Outdoors sounds good. Even Brick Lane sounds good.

Count me in!

Ditto to everything Angel said. It'd be nice, especially if the weather's good.

That is a really nice quote. End of summer is a sad time.
I'd like to come and meet you all, only questions is where/when?

Can't make it, out of town, but have a drink/manicure for me.

Well, it's now gonna have to be Sunday as I've just found out I'm working on the Saturday (you would have thought I'd have taken care to book the whole week off), I'm going to put my foot down and say 3:00 pm onwards, now if someone can come up with a location?
It would be nice to do somewhere we either haven't been to before or haven't been in a while, anyone know any good pubs in the east end?

Sunday is cool for me, anyone know a good pub with a beer garden (this would exclude the 93 feet east it not being a good pub).

If we don't get onto organising this we'll find, as Joni Mitchell sings:

I awoke today and found the frost perched on the town
It hovered in the frozen sky, and it gobbled summer down

So to that end I propose the Vibe Bar. It's opposite 93 Feet East where some of us have been before and it has a large outdoors area for if the weather is nice. I haven't ever been inside before so I am suggesting this blindly.

Does anyone else have an opinion either for or against?

That sounds good, Angel. What street is it on?

It's on Brick Lane and down near the Old Truman Brewery site. Literally opposite 93 Feet East. I think this also means that it is closer to the Aldgate East end of the street.

Anyone else with thoughts/ideas? I'm certainly not an expert in this area, Where's Flyboy when you need him?????

Last night, well, earlier today, an Angel saved my idea.

I say let's go with that, if it or the weather turn out to be nasty we can always duck in 93FE and get numb bums.

The Vibe Bar sounds good to me. I'm still in London, just. I might have to duck out depending on my state following my work-based leaving do on the Friday.

A time?

What, who me??? You're too sweet dear!

But you came up with this great idea in the first place, and found lovely lyrics to illustrate it too. (Hmm, could this be any more mutual admiration society! Cue St Elmo's Fire theme music!)

Anyway, bring on the drinks and toons! Sunday, Vibe Bar, 3.00pm onwards! Be there or be somewhere else!

So I'm guessing the nearest tube is Aldgate East, every Barbemeet I go to is an adventure!

Looks like I'll probably still be in London, so I should be able to make that!

A word of warning: the inside of the Vibe Bar ain't pretty - the music's always far too loud for the middle of the afternoon, for one thing. It's fine if the weather's great, because the courtyard's quite nice and often has a good, well, vibe - but if the weather's bad, we'll need a back-up plan. 93 Feet East may not be much of an improvement - it really depends how busy it is, and I get the impression that these days at weekends it gets full pretty early. There's the Golden Hart, not a bad pub at all but a bit too small, possibly... Other than that you're looking at heading north into Shoreditch, where there are lots more options but arguably none as good as the Vibe/93 option if the weather *is* good...

To be honest, I'm willing to risk just saying Vibe Bar or 93 but then I don't object to the insides of these places anywhere near as much as some 'Lithers are bound to...

Hey, I might just be able to make it if the whole moving-into-house thing goes according to plan on Saturday..

It would be great to see you Rizla if you can make it. And you too Fly, haven't see you in ages.

C'mon London Barbeliods, come for one mad exaultant fling before winter swallows us whole and sends us scuttling into the darkened corners of indoor excess!

Bill, the way most Barbeloids dress we'll be lucky if the Vibe barmen acknowledge us, much less condescend to battle.

Er, with booky things to sell. You have been warned.

I've just seen that Brick Lane festival's on on Sunday, so there'll be lots of good food about for nibbling before or after beer. Buuuut, the Vibe bar is involved in the festival, with "live afro punk, rock and jazz". So it'll be busy. Just so we know where we stand.

Oh, Jesus.

Do we have time to replan, possibly focussing past Al's objections to the Spitz, or going for the warm, most embrace of the Reliance? Or are we doomed to the Tarquinade?

Not gonna be there, I'm afraid. This weekend's taken up with on-call and flat-hunting in Saaarf London.

'Tis one of my favourite Pulp lyrics, though.
