You're off for a year's travel, aren't you? Bloody hell, I'm so envious...
You could immerse yourself in the last-minute practical details - getting addresses, email, bank details, emergency contact numbers, etc. Depending where you're going, you might want to stock up on UK-specific trinkets to take with you (in India, schoolkids all ask you for sweets, and pens - even crappy Bic biros - go a long way, especially if they're emblazoned with the Union Jack). It's useful to make a note of your various measurements in case you decide to have clothes made (ZoCher and I bought dodgy Oasis-esque nehru-collared suits the last time we were in Goa) and, if you wear glasses, take your prescription with you.
Or you could do the time-honoured thing and get pissed, lairy and sentimental. Just don't do that Sunday night...
I really like travelogues (anyone remember the 'Elephant Head Trip'?) and I hope you're gonna check in now and again to keep us updated. Start a thread (in Conversation, maybe, or Creation) and do the whole Kerouac fantasy thang.
Wish you well. I think you're really really gonna enjoy this. |
