The Synchronomicon (Or: Apopheniacs Anonymous Support Group)

The purpose of this thread is: To be a compendium of the synchronicities that each one of us experience everyday. So, people with not too much experience in magick can use the wise guidance of others to pick up meanings, point out possible ways to use the synchronicities on one's favor, to help translating whatever it is that The Big Answer-Machine In The Sky is trying to tell us, and so on, and so forth.
Think of this experiment as a mutual support group. Or something to that effect.

I'll begin:

Those messed up guys

1. "Zombies!" thread pops up in the conversation
2. Grant posts about a doctor who had a house full of corpses and pieces of corpses. Heads in buckets under the sink, this sort of thing.
3. I visit The H. P. Lovecraft Library and print a short story to read on the bus in my way home. Herbert West: Re-Animator - and I find out it's about a body-snatcher who's trying to ressuscitate the dead. Many zombies ensue.
4. At night, having a beer with two friends, Frankenstein's monster pops up in the conversation for no reason.
4. This morning, in Movies, the thread "Rob Zombie film finally!!!"

So. Er... comments welcome.

Hey Jade! Great thread concept, I would never have thought to do it, but it makes so much sense.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but will post here when I do.

Once again - great thread! < No, I have no idea why I am so excited about this bloody thread! Oh, well, go figure!>

I love the title "The Synchronomicon" sounds like a great name for a chaos magazine!

Um, the meaning of all this Zombie madness in your life? Well if you're "muito cansado" then you're probably feeling like a zombie and this is your mind's way of saying, "relax".

I think it's a startling coincidence that I somehow end up at work every day. But I guess that's not what you're talking about.

maybe i read too much burroughs... since the beginning of this year i have been having experiences with the 23 synchronicities. for example i would awake in the middle of the night right at the 23rd minute of each hour... timed phone calls on cellphones would be 23 seconds, a neighborhood watch police car would be marked 23... and numerous other experiences with addresses and such. i still have experiences with the number and it happens frequently. has anyone else had any experiences with this number?

Got a lotta numerical repeats. Things like 9:11 on the clock. :23 on parking meters. Saw a truck not once but twice that read "23 Amsterdam Co." I see people wearing jerseys all the time with 23, and not just Jordan Bulls jerseys. Starting several weeks ago when I went to visit my grandmother, first 3 of us took bus 222. (3 x 222 = ...) Saw another 222 the next day. Then it went up to 333. Seen that one a whole bunch of times. When it hits 666, should I sell?

In the past few months, I've been seeing a few "Abraxas" synchronicities.
It started with reading up on the ancient Gnostics.
Then it popped up again when I was reading Hermann Hesse's Demian (which I found in my basement).
Then a friend sent me to this link.
Then, while perusing an art magazine, I saw the cover art for Santana's Abraxas album.
I don't quite know what to think of all this.

23=why

I never realize when the synchronicity hits me with numbers, although I know it happens, I never catch it. It frequently happens with words that I read in books, words that people say, words in songs.

When Lenny Kravitz sings "and I won't leave until I'm done" (from the song 'Are You Gonna Go My Way') at the exact time I read that phrase in a book, I pretty much fold it down to that I am right on track and I will keep doing what I do until the next sync comes along to reassure me I am STILL on track. It happens so much that it got dilluted and I just brushed it off as coincidence, but some folks here gave me a better understanding of what is actually happening with syncronicity.

I've been having a horrible Joyce Meyer related synchronicity. If this keeps up, suicide may be an option

Had a strange Jack the Ripper synchronicity the other week (of all things). I bought Iain Sinclair's 'White Chapell, Scarlet Tracings' the other day, and the day after I finished it, when I was getting in the car to go to Newcastle, without the book in my hand or anything, some ginger-haired local nutcase came striding past me shouting 'It's the Ripper, Sah!' in a terrible cockney accent.

Very odd.

I think it has something to do with me killing those prostitutes...

I had a synchronicity synchronicity. I'd been spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about the subject, then modthree started his thread, then the term started cropping up occasionally in various books I was reading, until I finally started looking up websites for information on the phenomena. The day after my Google search my Mum gave me a book on synchronicity - something I wouldn't have imagined in a million years she'd buy for me, and something she had no idea I was interested in.

Minor oddness, summed up in email with an aquaintance who wrote me two emails apropos of nothing in particular (meaning, not replying to anything I sent). One was headed something like "Viridian Note 0003: Doors of Perception" and the other was talking about how he just bought "Patton" and "The Shining" during a DVD sale:

> > Weird. I was just talking to a coworker about
> a
> > Ray Mansarek interview ("I tuned in right
> around
> > the whole 'Doors of Perception' blah blah
> thing,"
> > he said) when I noticed your Doors of
> Perception
> > email. And then over lunch was discussing
> George
> > C. Scott in Patton. And am now writing a
> story on
> > a haunted hotel, which includes a piece of
> trivia
> > about The Shining as part of the page.
> >

He then went on to narrate another synchronicity dealing with the number 76.

I think it's all omens of Iraqi war (Spirit of 76, Philips 76 gas stations = America + oil... after opening doors, ghosts, and generals who think they're reincarnations of past leaders...).

When I first saw this thread about tiny humanoids, I remembered something I'd read about Magellan encountering giants in Patagonia, so I went googling to look for it and came across Steve Quayle's site about giants. He's got some kind of thing about the bible, I dunno. But today it came up on memepool.

Huh. Zombies.

I went over a friend's house to watch Warren Zevon on Letterman (Zevon, aside from writing many black and morbid songs, is dieing of lung cancer and looks like the walking dead) and caught the later half of Dawn of the Dead. Apparently, there was a zombie movie marathon that night as well. Oh, and Zevon played Roland the Headless Thomson Gunner, by the way.

Much syncronicity to the dead walking lately, eh? Couldn't possibly have anything to do with Halloween, eh?

Well this is fairly benign, but I was bit shocked to see that Hank Pym from The Ultimates is apprently drinking at a bar only five minutes from my place.

I had a string of Tarrantino synchs recently. Mostly seperate conversations somehow coalescing to the same subject. That, plus some musical synchs convinced me to someday write "Resevoir Dogs: The Musical"

The Scorpion synchs I had a few months ago were much more magickal and disturbing...

I've been writing a paper about hypnotic suggestion in Catcher in the Rye. One of my arguments depends on pictures of Mark David Chapman wearing a red hunters cap like the one Holden Caulfield wears throughout the novel, and I've seen five different men wearing similar hats in the last week. Maybe these ugly hats are coming back into style, I dunno. Then, today, I got one of those irritating junk forwards from a friend, this one containing a joke about a hypnotist. This is interesting to me because my first work with magick involved hypnosis. I haven't done it in over a year, but have been thinking about getting into it again. Invitation, or warning? In the joke, as you might imagine, things do not go as planned.

I had a good one nearly three weeks ago, the day I moved from Clapton to Cornwall:

there was a tv programme on Harold Pinter, someone I know very little about. He talked about when he lived in Clapton, and suddenly there was footage of the road next to one I lived in, and then I saw film of a shop just a few yards from where I used to live. Immediately after, he talked about his childhood and being evacuated to Cornwall. I was freaking out, but it made my mother laugh and it seemed like I was being told that I'd done the right thing.

I've actually been experiencing some golem synchs the past week.

At work I had a conversation with a pharmacist about mythology and how I think golems are one of the most fascinating mythological characters to me because of their creation (being written into existence and Truth becoming Death to kill the golem, etc...)

The day after, I started reading "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" under the recommendation of a friend. And the first section is all about liberating a golem from it's hiding place in Prague to keep it from the Nazis.

And just yesterday I was driving and turned on NPR to hear a Fresh Aire interview with Frank Miller, and the first words I heard were "Siegel basically created what is a golem with Superman"

So now the question is what does it all mean? (hm... looking at it I suppose it could be a comic book synch as well, but how geeky would that be?)

So now the question is what does it all mean?

Could be your subconscious/guiding spirit/fill-in-the-blank is trying to lead you into a new way of making servitors?

You said you were discussing how you found golems fascinating, and what fascinates us and resonates for us is often the more potent tool to use.

Excellent point FatherDog. Especially interesting since servitors have been on my mind lately. I've never actually attempted to create one due to uncertainty in my abilites to make and use one effectively. Perhaps it's time to move past those doubts and give it a go. Thanks.
