Darkwo(l)ds - My Book's Out Soon!

I'm asserting my right to call this a book, although it's half way between that and a magazine - nice cover, simple text inside, you get the picture. Anyway, it's going to the printers on Monday, and should be done within a fortnight of now. So, basically, I'll be hassling people to buy it. I don't know the price yet, but it'll probably be around £2.50/£3 for six short stories. I've been told I don't sell myself very well, but I'm really excited about this and... er, everyone should buy a copy.

But of course, this is also interesting in terms of self publishing and going it alone. Bearing in mind the editor I've sent my last two stories to has recieved them but not given me any response (after a long, long time), I feel like I have some control over my work. I want to use it to send for reviews in the British SF small press, and in local bookshops, and I'll try Forbidden Planet. I used to do music/political fanzines, and I hated trying to sell the things. So I hope this is a bit easier.

Well, I got the books back tonight and they look very nice - glossy cover, plain text inside. Pretty much just what I wanted. I'm planning on bringing a few copies on Sunday if I come to the meet. At the moment I'm swinging between being really happy and then having massive amounts of self-doubt - the usual stuff, but so much hinges on whether I get it reviewed in the places I want - and that's not, of course, a guarantee of a good reviews; I could get totally slated.

I'll stop now before I talk myself into chucking em all in the recycling bin. But I did make contact with a bloke on U75 who had self-published his graphic novel and had done really well with it, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

Persephone - I'll have to find out about Paypal - haven't a clue how it works. At the moment, while I'm still working, I can sneak stuff through the franking machine, so postage may not be an issue...

In my theater company we call that the "corporate donation program." Support the arts! If you don't already have PayPal set up, I think it's lots less bother for me to do the IMO thing... PM me where to send the moolah & I'll figger out the rest.

*spying pin*

AND MAYBE YOU COULD SLIP IN A COPY OF the sky is falling in THAT, I GUESS, FELL INTO THE OCEAN ON ITS WAY OVER HERE...

I'd like one. I'll be getting part of my student loan as of Monday, so you should be getting a package fairly soon. Maybe I'll slip in a little something something in exchange for your book. Are these horror stories?

I'll start pm'ing my address to people... Pin - if you send me two copies of your zine, then I can pass one on to Persephone - the other one'll be for me if that's okay.

Moriarty - yeah, they're horror stories. One's pretending to be sf, but it isn't really.

Thanks for the interest. Hope it's a decent read.

I'll take one off your hands. And if you need a hand selling it to Planet, I'm on very good terms with the head of the book department (I used to be his deputy, y'see.) and should be able to help you out.

Anyhoo, congratulations! I look forward to it.

Grovelling appreciation in order, Stoatie.... - I did actually hear that it was unbelievably difficult to get small press type stuff into Forbidden Planet.

I've been pm'ing people about this but probably forgot to put this in - postage is free right now (the book is £2.50), but I'll need to use a family name of some kind to get it through my workplace. Let me know, huh?
