Plunderphonics- Who's Music Am It Anyway?

Our Lady of The Two Towers

This, from Detritus and then This, from the official Plunderphonics site.

Having listened to the first album, it sounds a bit like the KLF on '1988' (also available in MP3 from Detritus BTW) without the sense of humour. It also sounds older despite supposedly being made a year or two after the KLF's album.

What do other people think, about the music, and also his manifesto for claiming music? Listening to the music this goes beyond sampling, each track seems to be entirely built out of a source song.

I'll put a proper comment in here when I've got the energy to read that all the way through. First impressions? Somebody's been putting the thesaurus on Word through its paces.

I'd just like to take this moment to apologise for the misspelling in the thread title...

In terms of people actively involved in this area, I'd push you more towards something like Antediluvian Rocking Horse. I've seen them do it live and have a copy of the new disc, and it's an interesting progression that sounds more cohesive than you'd expect. They seem pretty clued up on the ideas behind their work, and it's interesting to read their takes on copyright, at least. I think that a lot of times, too, activities in this area are predicated on making a statement about such, rather than necessarily a desire to make reinterpretive music.

I think this is very much like the DJ Pantshead stuff, too - the ECC (Negativland people, if memory serves) have been exploring this idea for a while...
