X-Men 2 Trailer

Matthew Fluxington
15:01 / 23.08.02
Here it is, in quicktime.

It looks like it's going to be really good - I got a good rush of geeky excitement from this, which I didn't get from the first one. This movie, by all accounts of storyline and from what you can see in the trailer, is probably going to be a lot better than the first X-Men movie.

Those creepy shots of the U-Men-type folks walking around Xavier's with flashlights is great, as well as the Magneto-as-Hannibal-Lechter thing and Rogue being frightened in the sewers. I like Bryan Singer's visual aesthetic in these shots, he makes it all look frightening, as it should be.

There's some echos of the NXM Imperial storyline in there, the "kids in danger from invasion of campus" thing at least.

I want to see it now! I want to see it now, that trailer gave me goosepimples, I can't wait to see it on a big screen.

This trailer is fucking awesome. Makes me hungry for the film but - crucially - DOESN'T GIVE ANYTHING AWAY.

Like the choice of stirring orchestral music rather than crap techno, like in the original film's promo...

I was going to mention the music too - who is doing the score? It sounded very good, better than most sci fi-type movies by far.

17:14 / 23.08.02
Um, Flux, the music in the trailer is from Mars: The Bringer of War by Gustav Holst, the first movement in his The Planets suite. It's been tweaked a bit with echoes of Horner's Aliens score, but by and large that's just pure Holst. IMDB lists John Ottman as composer, though.

And can I just give a big Fuck YEAH! to Brian Cox as Stryker. Cox is my new hero.

Thanks for the info.

Brian Cox looks disturbingly similar (in this film, anyway) to a former photography professor that I had at Parsons. It's hard for me to see that character without thinking of him, especially when he grins.

I cannae make it work! Does anyone know anywhere else online to download from?

Flux, there's plenty of Gustav Holst info here: http://wso.williams.edu/~ktaylor/gholst/.

As for the X2 trailer, it's not on Apple's trailer page anymore. You can watch it at CountingDown.com here (http://www.countingdown.com/movies/x-men2), but it'll take awhile because it's weighs in at 4 1/2 megs.

There's some echos of the NXM Imperial storyline in there, the "kids in danger from invasion of campus" thing at least.

I would imagine that was, like a lot of the rest of the film, swiped from God Loves, Man Kills rather than anything that's happened in the books recently.

Exp recommend getting it from Kazaa or similar.

I did. Works a treat

Damnit. Why am I on slowband? Why is it in quicktime? Why can't it hurry up and come out? I really liked X-Men - it worked very well, all things considered, and I feel (pretty similarly to Spider-Man, in fact) that a sequel can only be better, not worse - as long as it's handled with same care/casting/director as before.

But yeah. New cast sounds great. Only one request, Mr. Singer: more Rogue. (Don't ask.)

Sorry for the threadrot, but I recommend Second Suite.

The trailer that is on Counting Down is NOT the same trailer as the one I mention at the start of this thread, which is probably already very obvious for anyone who has seen both of them. Those on very slow computers should not waste their time with the Counting Down trailer, as it has no images from the film.

Holy shit!

Nightcrawler beats up the fucking President! In the Oval Office!

Well... wouldn't you?

Click on the pic, Foust: it links to Entertainment Weekly's website, which reveals that

In his first movie, Singer dared to make the Holocaust a central motivator for one of his villains. In the sequel, he depicts a sympathetic character -- disgruntled circus performer Nightcrawler -- mounting a terrifying assault on the Oval Office (which was reconstructed based on photos from the official website -- the Bush administration refused to help out).

Jack, that's my favourite post of the year to date.

Look at the glee on his face!

That's how we'd all feel, isn't it? If we were blue and furry with a tail, and got to beat up the President.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

I'd pick up my jaw but I think I'd have to fly to China for it.

Just seen the X Men 2 trailer meself. My gob is well and truly smacked.

I think they've done a superb job on Nightcrawler and the trailer is chock-full of great scenes: Police: "Put down those knives in your hands!" Logan: "I can't!".

Damn. I want to go and see this film now......

Foust is SO authentic
19:04 / 19.02.03
That's the best trailer I've seen since the final Two Towers piece.

Utopia
21:14 / 20.02.03
Yeah, I really wasn't a fan of, ahem, X1 or X1.5...but the new trailer gots me all 'cited for 5/2. Watched it back to back with the League of Extraordinary Gents trailer (LXG?!?) and X2 blew that out of the water. Dig Nightcrawler's Bamf FX!

I want to see this! Does anyone know where I can actually just download the movie? These embedded ones never work on this PC

The Strobe
09:21 / 21.02.03
Well, the first one pretty much rocked my nuts...

the second one is just... awesome. There seems to be a whole lot of stuff crammed into this film in a good way. The effects already look very good - X-Men 1 had a pretty low budget, and was quite impressive considering... but the Nightcrawler ones were especially good, certainly. It's become clear after a glut of superhero movies that it'll take more than some chop-socky to wow the crowds.

It does just look wonderful... and I think that Singer's now got the chance to handle the human/mutant racism angle in the way he wants, rather than the only way he could in the first film. It doesn't just look bigger and better, it looks deeper.

A friend said to me: "what are you going to do when this film comes out? Your life will be empty!". I think they might be right, sadly. As of now: I. Cannot. Wait.

Saw the trailer before Daredeveil last week. Blew me away. Followed by the Matrix 2 trailer did make DD kinda flat however.

And can I just give a big Fuck YEAH! to Brian Cox as Stryker. Cox is my new hero.

An astute casting choice, given the Shakespearan talent already in the film. Brian Cox rocks.

So we've got TWO British baddies in this film! Some kind of Hollywood record?
