The Saragossa Manuscript

I've only just found out that a film translation of Jan Potocki's The Saragossa Manuscript/The Manuscript Found in Saragossa exists. As I've said elsewhere, I started the novel some time ago only to put it down for a couple of days and - inevitably - forget about it. What I've read so far, though, has been fantastic. Basically a collection of short stories, the multiple narratives twist around and turn in themselves constantly. It's vivid, violent and freaky and never anything less than captivating, and for the life of me I can't see how a film version could fail to be a confused mess.

Does anyone know, though? Before I go shelling out the cash for the Region 1 DVD, has anybody here seen it?

This is my favourite book, so all I can do is plead with you to read and enjoy it.
Concerning the film version, as far as I'm aware it was filmed in the sixties by a polish director whose name escapes me, but was relaunched by Gerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead before he copped it. The film is confusing, but in a .........nice... way

Enjoy!
