I'm going to be in NYC for the first time from the 1st to the 4th September. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I shouldn't miss. I'm particularly interseted in catching some live stuff -from Jazz to shouty girl bands, or even some performance. Also, any good small galleries with futurist/ultramodern/anything really.
Ta,

Imp, I don't have much to say about live shows or small galleries here. Find a copy of the Village Voice or Time Out -- and a subway map! -- on your way in, as both feature up-to-the-minute listings of stuff like that. I would recommend doing the obvious stuff that people are sometimes too cool for (Museum Mile, the Statue of Liberty, etc), even though any of them could take all day and you're not here for very long. Riding the Q train out to Coney Island is also time consuming but you'll see a side of the city that is truly amazing and even most New Yorkers neglect. For Pete's sake, stay away from Ground Zero.
