It all started here. Quick synopsis - breaking & entering by unwanted elements, while we were in the house.

Well, they were back yesterday evening. Probably the same people, because they knew our movements, that we had a dog, where the alarm system was etc. Very professional too ... not a single fingerprint to be found anywhere. Despite the fact that they started removing two of the windows.

My poor puppy is a wreck (they beat her with a stick to keep her away). And me? I'm angry, upset ... really p*ssed off to be exact.

My request : I would like to create an aura/feeling/whatever around the house and the property that will inspire terror in any who dare to come in there with harmful intent. I want a rumour to start going around that my place should be avoided at all costs. The house should still be welcoming and a sanctuary for all invited quests and whatever I implement, should not cause any of my animals any harm or fear.

Any suggestions, Deities, spells, rituals etc that you could recommend at this time would be great. If possible something specific.

Your help will be greatly appreciated. The way I feel now, I'll probably end up cursing them. PM me if you would prefer it.

Thanks a million

How much do you know about the history of your house? Previous owners, etc...

An ongoing, choosy sort of thing like this seems like it would work best with a servitor sort of thing, rather than a spell. You could make your own, or call on one that seems appropriate.

I can't think of any deities that seem particularly apt off the top of my head (and you're better off working with ones that resonate personally for you) but if your house is an old one, with many previous owners, the ghost of a previous inhabitant might be exactly what you need. They can be reasoned and bargained with, have a definite stake in protecting the house, and if you stay on good terms with them ought to be quite amenable to you and your guests. And given the meme of ghosts in popular culture, they're admirably suited to causing terror in intruders.

this thread has some good suggestions for voluntary hauntings...

There's a long history of household spirits in, well, pretty much any old, old belief system.
Rome had them, the Celts had them (the pooka or the shoemaker's elves would be different iterations), the Chinese had them and, unless I'm mistaken, the Zulu had them. Although African native ones would be more along the line of what FatherDog is talking about - ancestral spirits.

There's also a popular figure of the gatekeeper - Heimdall is the Norse one, and Eleggua is the Yoruba/Santeria one. There are plenty of others too, all working in different ways, but all with a ring of keys on their belts.

Good luck.

Using an aura of not attention or "invisibility" helps a little, but if they have allready entered twice, it mivht be against you or your house, or even some big bad karma on the house.
Cursing might not be a bad idea.
Anyway, if we can help with the spell, just tell.

How about a doing a protection sigil that we all help charge?

I need some serious help. They tried to get into the house again at 03:00 this morning, while we were in the house. Twice in one week is getting ridiculous.

I've put several protection spells in place (As have my parents, both shamans & healers), which means that the alarm goes off when someone tries to get in, but waking up screaming at 03:00 in the morning, with alarms blaring is too much. I'm a wreck and so is my husband. It feels as if we won't have any peace until these f*ckers have cleaned us out or murdered us. Our house has been marked ...

I've reached a stage where the next suspicious person I see anywhere near my property, will be the recipient of a curse. Which isn't such a good idea, as I could inadvertently curse a perfectly innocent person.

Yes, I'm paranoid ... but 3 attemps at breaking into the house in less than 3 months is too much.

Haven't had too much luck with sigils. Anything, that you can suggest would be greatly appreciated ... I want these people to know that if they f*ck with me, they're going to get hurt.

How about starting with a blessing on the house, get rid of any bad vibes attracting trouble to your door that may have been there since before you moved in, also to start attrating good stuff. I find protective spririts are sometimes wary of going near anywhere with dark clouds hanging over it.
The ghost idea sounds good, not something I know much about though. I'd go for it in layers first blessing to clear the slate, the protection to stop anything attacking with a warning on it, kinda like putting up a fence and a beware the dog sign, if anyone jumps the fence after that it's their problem, deity-wise I'd go for heath god connected with justice, a mother/crone double whammy. Also you make the emphasis on the home rather than the house. Hope that helps a bit

Well, as an interim measure until I get home from work tonight and implement some of the wonderful ideas presented here, I have created a sigil for putting up a barrier around my home.

The sigial can be found here/ If any of you are interested in charging it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million

Um...have you tried calling the police? Just a thought. And yes, I know they're never around when you need 'em, and they're either useless or arresting you or harassing your mates when they ARE around (or at least that's my personal experience), but it helps to give these things a try at least once. If only to feel that you did TRY and go through legal channels.

The obvious question is...Why your house? Why so often? Have you just moved in to an area that isn't famed for it's tolerance of outsiders? Do the locals object to any visible trappings of your lifetsyle? I'm trying to find out if these things are purely financially-motivated, or if there seems to be some kind of vendetta. If it IS personal, then you may HAVE to do something to target the people behind it. Whether that involves binding, cursing them, or using some kind of personality-altering assault (my preferred tactic, now that I've decided to go pacifist) is up to you.

I still think contacting the police and fitting fuck-off locks and a burglar alarm are probably a better bet than straight magic for deterring burglars. Try planting lots of thornbushes, nasty, intimidating plants, as well - people tend to keep away from them, for physical and psychological reasons.

velvetvandal: the house in question is in a rather high-crime country.

ShadowRain: Don't just make & charge the sigil. Copy it out - make it look like real juju - then post it around the house where the would-be thieves *have* to see it. So they know there's something weird going on.

To ensure you are not cursing an innocent person, you must first erase any doubt they are doing wrong by being there, post many visible "no trespassing" or even "danger" signs in addition to any sigils or magical work you do. The idea, Im assuming, is making them stop rather than harming them now or later if/when they get in. They may not know, beleive or care, and if they do a magical defense alone could be considered a challenge. Notify your police that it's happened, and that is why the signs are up, and that you will be calling every time you hear a sound. Your odds of there being a coincident of invader/police if the police are making a heavier circulation by your house. Also gives you better legal recourse for anything that happens while they're on your property. Then sigil away.

Gordon Bennett, Shadow-- that sounds terrifying! I'll charge your sigil, and also do some sort of protectiod thing. I really hope that whoever's doing it gets hauled in by the police soon.

I thought I'd clarify a couple of things ...
* The house has an existing alarm system with armed response withing 3 minuts of the alarm going off.
* I moved in three months ago, and nothing on my house or my lifestyle can distinguish me from anyone else in the neighbourhood (from the outside at least And they culture is of such a nature that most people don't give a continental who moves in next door.
* I have put razor spikes on the wall (after the first break-in 3 months ago) and they still got over twice.
* All the doors leading to outside have security gates on them which remain locked at all times
* I informed the police about the situation after the first break-in. Calls to the person handling the case after the last two attempts have remained unanswered and they haven't bothered to return my calls when I leave messages to phone me back.

I have a strong suspicion that the break-ins are financially motivated, as I believe that they're the same people who stole my rings valued at over R20 000.

As Grant mentioned, I live in a high crime country, South Africa - which you've all probably heard of. There are two reasons why my situation is not high priority on anyone else's list but mine.

One - the police force are seriously understaffed and underpaid. With the high levels of murder and rape, breaking & entering is very low on the list.

Secondly - I grew up in the Apartheid era. And we're still feeling the after effects of this today. I have a white skin, I earn a semi decent salary and I live in my own house. Which immediately classifies me as one of the have's, while they are part of the have-not's. That makes me a prime target for this type of thing.

The other terrifying factor is that the crime pattern has changed over the last couple of years. In the past, if you left them alone to clean out the house (when you were in it during their crime spree), they usually left you alive. These days, maybe because of anger at the 'white elite', breaking & entering becomes rape & murder.

My apologies if I'm coming across as bitter and twisted. It's been trying times. I will be putting up 'bad mojo' signs sometime this weekend as well as continuing my magickal work in the background.

At the end of they day ... I owe them nothing. Nothing gives them the right to violate my privacy, my safety and my sanctuary. And if I have to do everything I can to ensure the safety of me and my family, I will.

Thanks for the help, replies and good wishes.

Love & light
Shadow

Shadow -

First - greetings - I'm in dear old .za too.

Second - faith sister. I too have been 'victim' to violent crimes in this place - many times, and none of its easy to deal with. I've never gotten to the point of trying to protect myself other than physically, I have once sucumbed to feelings of revenge for the violation though - I had several years worth of work stolen for the sake of R10 in my bag :\

The greatest enemy you have is not without - mantaining a feeling of peace is hard - but it *is* within that this battle is fought. I've been at knife point, gun point, encarcerated, stabbed and even had armed robberies in my own home - and through all I've done my utmost to keep the peace in my heart - not easy when you've witnessed the execution of a friend and are in danger yourself - but its the only thing you can do.

Sigil wise - if you wish I'd suggest the rune ansuz carved thrice upon something by the entrance or visible on entry to your property. The carving is a method for calling on the protection of the gods - Wodan in particular, its the only protective means I've ever used.

Sending you peace -

You could also prey on any superstitions the thieves may have. Sure, "No Trespassing" signs are nice, but I'm sure they're already aware that what they're doing isn't condoned by you, the owner. Large, obvious occult signs and protections might work a little better. Stick a few human skulls on poles, disembowel some kittens, etc, etc

You might have a lot of explaining to do to neighbours and family friends, but by George, it'd certainly look pretty cool and scare the wits out of ME were I a thief >

If I were in your shoes, I would strongly consider moving. That this has not come up is a testament to your courage. Good for you.

Occult-wise, I would start with a major banishing rite, focusing on every entry way into the house. Having a material competent to this that will last and remind you for a few days that you performed the banishing would be highly recommended. Say, smudging with sage so that whenever you come in, you see the sage ash and are reminded that you performed the banishing rite to keep out hostile influences thereby boosting your confidence.

For ideas on how to instill terror and fear into the hearts of evil doers, I would start with physical means. If it is possible, I would suggest fencing off your property, as this provides a clear demarcation of your property. You mentioned spikes placed on your house, consider putting razor or barbed wire up as well. This is much more nasty and provides a clear physical threat to an intruder, thus facilitating their fear. You can also enchant these.

In terms of which mojo to use, I’d point you towards Goetic summonings. If you are serious about an occult solution, get a copy of the Key of Solomon and pick a nasty, fearsome demon to bind to your house. There are plenty of them in there whose portfolio is geared towards imposing fear about your enemies. Talk one of them into guarding your house and put his sigil up outside. The advantage to these guys over other godforms etc, is that the creatures of the Goetia are designed and intended as terror troops, very focused. They will scare the hell out of you when you summon them, but they will also scare your enemies.

If I were you, I’d also consider getting a guard dog and a gun.

Good luck,

-Jesse

What we've done so far, for those interested in the progress:
  • Created a sigil & charged it, as well as putting it up all over the house (inside)
  • Done a banishing in the entire house as well as the property
  • Smudged & reiki'ed the entire property
  • Drew reiki protective symbols in permanent marker on the perimeter walls, inside and outside
  • Put up sigils & runes on the wall against the house where they usually climb over, in order for it to be visible when the look over the wall at that spot.
  • Have put 'muti' in the garden along the perimeter walls (will explain in detail what this is below)
  • Made sure that actions where visible to all interested parties (in order for the rumour to start spreading)
  • Informed our maid about the sangoma being there with the 'muti' in the garden. So she'll start spreading the rumour as well.
  • Done a meditation and ritual to create a protective barrier around the perimeter, invoking the ArchAngel Michael
  • And the old favourite - fresh rosemary and course sea salt in the corners of the rooms and in every window and door

What is Muti?
The indigenous cultures of South Africa have a very strong belief in the power of their sangomas or witch doctors. By consulting a sangoma and getting muti for the protection of my home, we are in effect using something that has inherent meaning to the people involved. Which, as we know, makes it that much more effective, because they believe it works.

Muti is the concoction, herbal or otherwise, that the sangoma uses as a physical sign of the spellworking, much like oils, symbols and the like.

It might sound like overkill to many of you. But I have had enough. Nothing is fair in love and war, and this is war. I have done nothing to harm the individuals involved, I have merely ensured that the barrier around my home is as strong as I can make it. And to be honest, I haven't slept as well as I did last night, in a long time.

For those of you interested in the meditation we used, please feel free to PM me. As a quick aside ... my husband, being from a Christian background, saw a wall of angels surrounding our property, with Michael standing in the middle. Whichever symbolism speaks to you, I would say that our home is well and truly protected. We will be periodically strengthening the workings, but for now, I can feel safe again.
