It is not a myth nor an easy thing to acquire, depending on a lot of different things: do you want webbased or pop/smtp/imap based mail? do you need to post to newsgroups? do you need encyption?
You can always use anonymous webbased email, or simply a remailer, to make sure your IP doesn't show up in the message header. I suggest you take a look into the following...
-ssl.mailvault.com, which I find top quality among webbased services
-hushmail.com, which has anoying commercials all around
-quicksilver, a remailer client program
-jack b nymble, another remailer/nym client program
-havenco's remailer, info somewhere on www.havenco.com
If you're truly paranoid, I suggest the use of an anonymous proxy on top of all above...
-privatesea.net is one I like
-magusnet
-some open SOCKS5 or similar
If you're looking for encryption, I suggest...
-pgp, a version which has the source published, like the CKT-version
-gpg (always opensource)
Hope this helps you out a bit... |
