remorse

My girlfriend won free tickets to Jay-Z, 311, Hoobastank, N.E.R.D. and the Nappy Roots at the Tweeter Center in Massachusetts for this Wednesday. Along with the tickets, she also won a duffle bag, hat, jersey, CDs of the performing artists (edited for radio play of course) and a CD case. Needless to say she hooked up nice.

I was wondering if any BARB'arians would be attending. The whole lineup is really not my cup of tea. I did see 311 a few times, but the teeny bopper crowd just kinda overwhelmed the atmosphere and it grew a little too innocent for me. I like to see a crowd going wild, I like to be in the crowd going wild. This is my first hip hop show (hip hop headliner anyway) so I have to go see how JayZ can make so much money. He is a hustler, so the story goes. Besides it's free.

Anyway, I'll be wearing the usual. Shamanic Murder Baseball Cap, flannel shirt and pants. Find me and we shall herbalize.

The show was fun. 311 put on a serious performance. The best drum solo I have ever seen in my short life. It gave me goosebumps.....damn. Chad Sexton is one mad drummer.

Aargh! How can you not talk about Jay-Z but mention that shitty rap-rock crap? Did Jigga not blow you away?

May I ask (though I think I'd rather not know), what the devil is "Nappy Roots"?

Actually, I really wasn't impressed with the perfomance by Jay-Z. I think it's his stage presence that has an effect on people more than his rapping or anything else. He definitely knows what he's doing up there on the stage, don't get me wrong. He just looks so comfortable performing and has confidence in his deliveries, it seems like the audience has no choice but to love him. The main problem for me was that he wasn't just up there by himself long enough to enjoy the flow. He brought the rest of his record label out and there was seven people with microphones having a party on stage, literally. And we all know how the acoustics can sound with that going on, garbled, muffled, and pretty gross sounding if you can imagine.

We left about halfway through his set, although I seriously would have stayed, but Kristin had to work at two in the morning and the shows were running late. If I had a choice I would have stayed for the rest. I like to take in everything I can before I judge whether or not I like an artist or their performance.

Rizla, you really don't want to know. But I'll tell you anyway. The Nappy Roots are a band from the "Dirty South" with more hooks slathered in their songs than butter on their grits. The rhyme content on the album is fairly decent, if you can stomach the nonstop hooks. But again, five fellows with mics on stage trying to get the same point across just doesn't come out sounding right.

Riz - think "Watermelon, chicken and grits" which was a minor hit this summer on the radio...

I'm not a fan of Nappy Roots at all, but what is the crime in having "too many hooks"? I find that really baffling...

"It's too catchy, melodic, and well-constructed! Ahhhhh!"

Has anyone heard Wesley Willis' "The Fabian Road Warrior"
Any song that has more than two chorus breaks in it reminds me of this whole album.

Aspirin Pop: take four and press play.
