Modern Magick - Lesson Three

So far, it's been interesting - I've been doing the observational exercises for elemental Earth and finding it everywhere.

I also added the disc/pentacle suit to my Tarot contemplation just to get a little variety, have drawn nothing but discs since.

It may be pitiful, but I'm bumping my own thread.

Has anybody else moved to Lesson three yet?

Not I, so far. Sorry.

Earth lessons? Circulation of the Body of Light? Tarot?

How's everybody doing?

(feeling kinda lonely here...)

I've been doing the circulation of the body of light, but that's about it. I dropped pretty much everything dealing with the Tarot back when I first started doing the LBRP. Knowing the Tarot is useful, yes, but it does not have to be an integral part of any rituals. Kraig puts far too much emphasis on using the Tarot to make sure you don't do any "black" magick. I'll continue to play around with the Tarot, but I'll be damned if I constantly run to my tarot deck before doing any rituals. The earth attunement is something I'm having trouble doing. I just don't have the time to sit around in the dirt and it's been raining for a few days so it's all muddy out. I will try to start the earth attunement ritual next week, but I'm not going to hold my breath about it. I'm lucky to find the time to do the LBRP, Middle Pillar, and Circulation of the Body of Light.

Is there a point where he has you reintegrate the cards you were supposed to take out *back* into the deck? Cuz that's the only thing that kind of annoys me.

Yeah, but he never explicitly says to put them back in. there's an offhand comment that "by now, you should be working with the entire major arcana" or some such...

He mentions it in Lesson Two; it's in step twelve of the Middle Pillar Ritual.

"Do the Tarot Completion Ritual. If you have been doing the ritual regularly for at least six weeks, you should begin using the all 22 cards of the Major Arcana"

I've been doing the circulation of the light, but haven't really gotten to the earth attunement. I've also not been doing as much with the Tarot; it's a system I'm already pretty familiar with, and I'm more of an I Ching kinda guy anyway...

I have, tell truth, dumped Modern Magick after I bought Regardie's compilation of the original Golden Dawn grade papers (it's fucking way better–just called "The Golden Dawn"). Modern Magick is basically all this stuff, but with Thelemic stuff mixed in and all dumbed down. Also, things like the banishing ritual seem drastically altered for no seeming reason (for instance, Kraig doesn't tell you that there are both invoking and banishing pentagrams–different way of drawing each–and this is in the first Golden Dawn lesson). Now I'm focusing on doing the original Golden Dawn stuff–all the same material, but uncorrupted and I get a much better feeling when using it. I'll still be looking at Kraig to see what he incorporates–like The Four Adorations–but then I'll go out and track down the original material for those things also (for instance, Crowley's Liber Resh vel Helios for the 4 Adorations). I take back what I said about this being the best intro to Golden Dawn style magick on the market–clearly, the original documents are! Duh! What was I sayin'?

Frickin' Llewellyn: it's called "The Golden Dawn"–as revealed by Israel Regardie

ISBN in US is 0-87542-663-8

um, thanks, i think. i only asked because when i looked it up on amazon in regards to New Falcon and Llewellyn books by Regardie on the Golden Dawn, both publishers had fairly similar titles and i was unsure.

The may be the same. But I can only vouch for the Llwellyn one.
