I have, tell truth, dumped Modern Magick after I bought Regardie's compilation of the original Golden Dawn grade papers (it's fucking way better–just called "The Golden Dawn"). Modern Magick is basically all this stuff, but with Thelemic stuff mixed in and all dumbed down. Also, things like the banishing ritual seem drastically altered for no seeming reason (for instance, Kraig doesn't tell you that there are both invoking and banishing pentagrams–different way of drawing each–and this is in the first Golden Dawn lesson). Now I'm focusing on doing the original Golden Dawn stuff–all the same material, but uncorrupted and I get a much better feeling when using it. I'll still be looking at Kraig to see what he incorporates–like The Four Adorations–but then I'll go out and track down the original material for those things also (for instance, Crowley's Liber Resh vel Helios for the 4 Adorations). I take back what I said about this being the best intro to Golden Dawn style magick on the market–clearly, the original documents are! Duh! What was I sayin'? |
