Undocumented Feature mentions an, er, documented feature that's present on many boards, the option to subscribe to a thread and receive email when someone replies. (You then don't get any more updates until you revisit the thread.)
I find this quite useful, and I'd like it on Barbelith as well. It could be said that this would discourage people from checking the whole of a forum and encourage them to only reply to topics they've subscribed to... but I don't think, given the attitude of people here, that this would happen, and from a point of view of server load and data transfer, it's better to send out mails than have people repeatedly checking a thread to see if there have been any replies. AFAIK. |
