Man Makes Giant Elvis Portrait Out Of Toast

I think the potential of toast as a material for mosiacs is definitely underexplored (except by this guy, who has also done the Mona Lisa and Jonah Lomu.)

Godamn, that's good.

I love the way he's got the carefully planned out different colours of toast, presumably from adjusting the settings on his toaster and using different kinds of bread..

What a guy.

There's the full story here...

"Using a commercial oven capable of cooking up to 90 full-sized slices of toast at a time, Bennett grilled the bread to six different shades ranging from burnt for Elvis' hair to lightly warmed for his skin.

"The idea for toast portraits first occurred to Bennett about four years ago when he was drinking with a group of friends.

""(I) saw a picture in a magazine, just a blocked out picture of a criminal and I suddenly thought 'Hey, that would look great in toast," he said, adding that he now had his own Internet website: www.mauricebennett.co.nz."

Toast is a lot more versatile than most people might think. For example, they came out with a weather forcasting toaster a couple of years ago: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1264205.stm.

That's rather disappointing..

I pictured him doing it on his normal household toaster, manically toasting, day in day out, occasionally shouting "GET MORE BREAD!" to his wife and refusing to explain what he was doing..
