Meant to post about this a couple weeks ago, but I forgot.

Production IG site here

Release date in Japan is in Oct.

Random rumors:

1) "According to Ghostwriter, this is a completely new series based on stories written by Masamune Shirow. It isn't a sequel to the movie and it isn't a remake of it. He won't say how closely it follows the manga or not"

2) word on the premeir, "The premiere was okay. Slow, but okay. I have seen better, but I have to remember, this was not supposed to be a convention. Unfortunately, I was expecting a convention style fare. It was free and there were a lot of people there, but only several hundred. The place never did completely fill up, though, even though they were giving out the tickets for free, they still expected anyone without ticket 1 or ticket 2, to leave the auditorium. So anyone who wanted could just ask. Kinda silly, but great at the same time.

The panels were the usual fare. Questions to the producers, animators, and directors. I was a little annoyed the SAC director didn't take off his hat. It made me feel he didn't want to have any contact with the audience.

The two episodes they showed us (1 and 3) were great. Fantastic music, animation (traditional, computer and CG), storylines. Fans are not going to be disappointed. One thing I did find strange was the 'default' clothing they chose for Motoko. She was decked out in a rather fetishist S&M costume, which made her look somewhat subservient. I'm sure all the fanboys will love that, but I felt it was out of place. Motoko is a character I feel is strong and independent, not someone who bows down to anyone. Not even Aramaki if she feels she is right. Fortunately, they change her mission clothing, so she's not dressed that way for battle.

I have considerable mixed feelings on this whole event. I loved the show, disliked the venue style. But then again, it wasn't my show, AND, it was FREE. Never look a gift horse in the mouth."

3) I came across one rumor (but now can't find it) that the series has already been picked up by Cartoon Network for broadcast around the same time as the Japanese release. But, I've got nothing to back this up, except one post on some board. Also, given CN's need to edit the hell out of stuff that might not be a good thing.

Cartoon Network's edits aren't all that bad. Sure, it'd be nice if they ran uncut stuff, but there are reasons for the edits. At least, they don't completely chop up a series. Fox completely killed Escaflowne.

Which is what I meant by "their need to..."

As far as how bad they are, depends on how picky the viewer is. I've heard several people moan that CN "destroyed" this series or that. Personally, I don't make a judgement since I don't watch enough TV to care and rarely is anime showing on CN when I happen to flip through the channels.

Though there is an amusing thread over at megatokyo about some of the stranger edits that CN has made.

My favorite one:

Heh. Have you seen that one episode where Jim [from Outlaw Star] had blood on his hands [suppose to] adn he looked at his "clean hands" and gasped and said "Blood!!"
