LONDON (Reuters) - A thick pall of black smoke was hanging over
London today after a fire broke out at an asphalt company,
probably started by an exploding gas cylinder, according to a Fire
Brigade spokesman.
The smoke from the fire at Tower Asphalt in Wapping could be
seen for miles around the city.
"The whole place is alight," a Fire Brigade spokeswoman told
Reuters, adding that an area measuring more than 600 square
metres (750 square yards) was alight.
She said there had been no reports of any casualties.
Wapping is in the heart of London's Docklands, home of Britain's
tallest building, the Canary Wharf office block, and a key financial
centre. |
