Looking for the Morrisson Dare TPB

Say! Does anyone out there know how/where I can get my hands on the TPB of the revisionist Morrisson 'Dan Dare: Pilot Of The Future'? Read this in Waterstones once and have been jonesing ever since (hey, I was poor...).

Ironically, my local store has a whole set of classic Dare reprints, but, nostalgia value aside, I'm not sure that's what I'm really in the market for....

unless you live in somerset or some shit you won't have much trouble finding it. just stay away from waterstones and got to the second-hand stores. stick to the weirder-looking one's and you'll have it before too long.

Ah, but I now live in Ithaca, New York. And stores round here don't have dick in the way of back issues, particularly of Dare stuff.

In fact, I'm not even sure who published the Dare stuff or if it's available in the US.

What's wrong with Somerset, BTW? I rather like a nice cider.

I went out drinking with Rian Hughes a few weekends ago at the San Diego comic convention - incredibly great guy, by the way - and he said that he and Grant have been approached regarding a new reprint edition of Dare. So there's hope yet...

Erm, I had made bogus "namedrop alert" html tags to go on either end of that post, but it looks like the board software recognized them as real tags and didn't include them in the message.

Individual episodes appeared in Fleetway's Revolver (1-7) and Crisis (56). The collection was printed by Xpresso in 1991. ISBN 1-85386-211-8. Hughes should do some more comics art, and not just the bleedin' logos.

The GM/Rian Hughes Dan Dare was good fun.

Revolver! Bloody hell! Quick - let me edit that post about 'Worst Comic Ever!'. Thanks a lot for reminding me Randy, you bastard!! ;-)

I suspect that rian hughes does more font and graphic design cos it pays better and far more regularly than comics. odd that

I’d be interested to see if the end of the Dare compilation (should it re-emerge) is changed to reflect the fact that the re-born Eagle has now been axed… or maybe it’ll refer to the Dare cartoon that’s running ? Anyone seen that ?

Though if anything’s going to be reprinted from Morrison’s Crisis/revolver days, I’d like to see Bible John… and was the New Adventures of Hitler ever compiled ?

>>>I suspect that rian hughes does more font and graphic design cos it pays better and far more regularly than comics.<<<

Your suspicions are dead on. Though he did say that the weekend in San Diego has rekindled his interest in doing comics, so fingers crossed...

Incidentally, he has a design book out now, a compilation of almost everything he's done. Well worth it if you're a Hughes and/or graphic design fan.

there's a charity shop round the corner with a little box of comics outside. each time i walk past it's like an old-school but disillusioned barbellend has dumped another pile of his comics collection in there. past couple weeks had a load of mid nineties comics fanzineswith big articles about the invisibles and interviews with milligan/mcarthy about the launch of skin. friday had the first doom patrol collection for ninety-nine and, get this, the titan dare trade in there for fifty-five pee. much cheaper than going all the way to my mum & dad's loft to get my old copy. i gave them a quid for it, felt a bit guilty. guess the value of it is about to drop drastically with the hughes reprint book on its way, but having it just here on the shelf is like having an old friend round to stay.

I dunno; it reprints all of DARE plus about 4 other pieces, some of which are short stories...
