All scenes have their cliches, and I have the same problem with hippy cliches and 18 year olds with glo sticks as you do Lyra. But it's not a reason to dismiss a style of music. And psy trance nights are different to your uplifting trance kind of patrons. And furthermore, a bit of visual stimuli is not such a bad thing when you're tripping.
I've been emailing my mate who's a dj and my regular dancing partner in order to get some facts, and this is what he says -
....and techno is the bastard child of electronica. Obviously a
techno freak we shall have to refute.
Psy-trance has evolved from the point of view that there are new artists every year who continue to experiment and try to take the music to a new level. Look at Tsyoshi Suzuki, been around since at least 1995 and his musical style develops just like any other artist. New artists like Infected Mushroom (Israel) and Gil Paradox (Australia) have put out new material in the last 12 months that take the music on their own paths and through their own interpretations of what we call psy-trance. Heck, look at the Pulse series of CD's out of Germany and the Goa-Head series too, #12 of the latter is quite funky in terms of it's rythyms and has good production, yet the latest release I have being #16 is quite organic in it's musical style, trying to be original in different by using new sounds.
Evolution !!!! Look at Cass & Slide who are very well known in the Progressive house genre, yet have had a track released on a Pulse compilation (#10 I think). Evolution is a term that encompasses change, and to say a musical style hasn't changed over the last seven years it like saying Metallica still play heavy metal thrash, or U2 play stirring songs about Northern Ireland.
And my favourite bit was where he called you "loose-tongued musical villains". |
