EXAPMLE: A friend hands me a tattoo magazine and throws on the Beastie Boys DVD. As I was thumbing through the pages, I saw a tattoo of J.M. Linsner's Dawn character. At that same exact moment, on a verse from the track, Pass the Mic, Adam Yauch rhymes..."well I'm on / 'till the crack of DAWN / mowing down mc's like I'm mowing a lawn". Now, if that hadn't happened, oh, say nine hundred times to me before, I might have been startled. This time was unique though, because it happened with a picture, while it usually happens with words while I am reading something.
This is the most recent exapmle and I have tried to explain to some friends these strange occurances, and most shrug it off as coincidence. I try to figure out the odds of this happening. What is the chance of me picking up a certain book and listening to any givin song and, at a single moment, a word from the book and a word from the song pair up within a second from each other? I reason to myself that if I read enough and listen to music enough that, of course this is bound to happen, but damn I just think it happens far too often for it to be coincidence. I have even tried to keep a list of some of the words to see if there were any other connections to this, but I have come up with nothing.
Has anyone else had this kind of occurance? Once or multiple times? The words are more complicated than "the, and, a...". Sometimes single syllable words like dawn, sometimes multi syllable words like recently. |
