Can we bring back the member #s? I like having an idea of who it is thats talking even when people change their ficsuit names. It helps me decide if I should bother posting in certain threads or just ignore them altogether.

You can see a person's member number by clicking on the profile, no?

The only things you see are the basic info like name, location, posts and topic numbers. No member numbers. I don't miss the member numbers since I was member 1248 or something big like that.

Why bring back member numbers? They weren't all that important. Why are you going to base the decision on whether or not to reply to a message on the member number of the person? That seems a bit silly.

Well, from what Bio said, it was so people could still be identified even if they change their names. I suppose having it somewhere might be useful but on the whole I don't really have strong feelings one way or another.

Why are you going to base the decision on whether or not to reply to a message on the member number of the person?

Because Ive seen a lot of new screen names lately and I cant tell if theyre new suits or old ones with new names. And because if you find that someone is constantly a wrongheaded pain in the ass you tend to avoid their posts.

Say you find Bio K9 to be a completely unreasonable jackass (not much of a stretch, Im sure) and youve decided that its not worth the hassle to respond to his posts. Then you run across some idiocy posted by BioDog in the Music forum. It looks like the same crap that Bio K9 would post but youre not sure if its him or not... If Bio K9 is user #3030 and BioDog is user #5554 it might be worth trying to talk to BioDog about hir idiocy.

Also, if Bio K9 is user #3030 and screeen name Haus of Cocksmokers is user #3030 you can be certain they are the same suit. It was helpful to keep track of user #187s rotating cast of names back in the day.

And the numbers dont have to reflect the vintage of the suit just act as a user identifier.

If you hover over someone's name, you can see their user number in the URL for their profile (or indeed if you click on their profile and look at the URL at the top of the page). I don't think there's really any need to publically display it at the moment, but I'll take it under advisement...

Sorry, Bio K9, I was unclear-- I meant that you could check the URL of the profile page, as Tom says.

I often use the MSNbroadband browser and it doesnt show anything if you hover over a link so Id never noticed that before. Hmm. Nevermind. Sorry for the fuss all.
