Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will run a second installment of their online screenwriting competition Project Greenlight. Submissions start Sept. 19th, and end on October 2nd. Polish up your scripts ya'll.
I've got mixed feelings about this, as I participated in the first one. It was fun trying to throw a script together (with a friend) in 3 weeks (we found out about it after it started), and while the finished project was a mess, it was better than I had expected. So, in that way it was a terrific confidence booster. However, the critique part of the project left a lot to me desired. I reviewed about a dozen screenplays, all of which I wrote extensive coverage for. When we got back our reviews, coverage ranged from tiny to nonexistent. part of the goal of the project was to foster a community of writers, yet these people had little respect for anyone else's work. I don't mind if you think my work sucks, just tell me why.
Now decisions. Should I polish up something on the shelf or throw together a new script? |
