Things which make you go Mmmm! - The Joy of Barbelith

As a companion volume to Tannhauser's "stuff that makes you icky" thread, what makes your eyes light up when you log on Barbelith?

Available to collect in 100 weekly parts.

1) Watching a thread unfold in the Head Shop (and other places, natch) which makes you slap your head and exclaim: "Of course! Why didn't I think of things in that way before?"

2) Getting on at the ground floor of a fresh, new fiction-by-committee project in the Creation, before it all gets messy and breaks the fourth wall.

3) The nice, warm feeling you get by being namechecked in a Barbe-love-in thread. Shallow, I know, but hey.

4) The Magick. I don't often understand it, but I'm glad it's there.

Getting PMs. They cheer up my morning. And good discussions in Books.

Threads like this one, which display the upward, constructive, appreciative, delighted side of Barbelith. Joy, indeed.

7) Giving stinking hippies a chinese burn. No, only joking.

Lovely warm schnoogles after everyone in a thread has realised that they are getting a *bit* heated and should throttle back, so everyone is suddenly really nice and it feels like you are cuddling up in your living room under a duvet and watching the rain splatter against the windows.

8) Long-running games which pop up all over the board - Morrissey lyrics, lime shower gel, pirates and ninjas, where to find a bakewell tart in a world of fairy cakes... it makes the board more coherent as well as being (often) funny and (frequently) an outlet for pent-up silliness.

LOL...

10) The phrase "It's our Barbelith and we like it."

...sorry, that drove the thing I was going to write right out of my head. Will have to come back later.

11) The fact that no-one has sniffily pointed out that the thread title should actually read "Things THAT make you go Mmmm!". I've been waiting all day for someone to do that, and my (low) expectations have been confounded. It's nice when that happens.

(threadrot)It would surely depend on whether you were distinguishing these things from other things that *didn't* make you go Mmmmm!, or adding descriptive information (that they maqke you go Mmmmm!) to a description of the things regardless of whether there where other things that didn't? Unless we are just going by C&C Music Factory rules. In which case....Fenchurch Street.(/threadrot)

Well... the idea was to have Barbespecific things that make you go mmmm!, rather than just nice things in general. Not that I'm against nice things in general, mind.

14)Mordant's Epilepsy thread. amazing.

15)The care and support that people around here show each other. Whenever someone posts having a hard time, needing hugs or appreciation, people queue up to give it to them, which is just fab.

16) When Tannhauser is unexpectedly tender and nice to someone, reminding us all that he's Not Just There For The Nasty Things In Life...

17) Finally getting pin's 'zine, theskyisfalling WHICH YOU MUST ALL GET HOLD OF AND READ, if only to make you feel a bit old and inadequate. (Even if he did put insufficient postage on it.)

<threadrot> Look! It got to all the normal people I already knew alright (except you), but then didn't get to the famous people like Jimmy Possessions and Bearsuit alright. Which is a tad embarresing. </threadrot>

18) The constant pleasent predisposition towards other 'Lithers (most notably me), with out any real cause or reason, dispite the whole Knowledge thing.

<threadrot> Be that as it may: you didn't stick enough stamps on the envelope. For an A4 fanzine you can usually expect to need 2 X 1st class stamps, at least. (Next time you punt out one of these things, I'll send you an SAE or summat.) Ordinary people have time to pop down the local Post Office depot and pick it up; extraordinary people like moi have Lurid Archives to do these things. Big famous people are unlikely to bother, as their lackeys are out filling brandy-glasses with brown M&Ms, or whatever. </threadrot>

(Well, I like your gf's blog-- she's groovy in the face of severe nongroovyness. Plus I like to play with the cursor.)

20) The way that someone you've had little direct interaction with and have always been vaguely in awe of suddenly gives you mad props.
