Has anyone here had this done?

I haven't ever experienced it, but a friend of mine swears by it. From what I understand, it is very, very intense deep tissue work that can be very effective.

I've also heard you need a very high pain threshold for it though.

Any reason for the question? Are you thinking of having some done or just researching it because of it's name?

I've never had any call for it. One time I asked a distant relative about it (he's a chiropractor) about how it differs from his profession, but for the life of me I can't remember what he said. But what I've heard from other people corroborate angel's point: the shit hurts. It's like an intensive form somewhere between Chiropractic therapy & Swedish massage, but more painful than either.

I was just checking it out because I saw an ad for it in The Stranger. I have a friend that gets deep tissue massage every so often but this sounds way different. Most of the web sites I checked were pretty vague about what, exactly, it is that they do but one of them made it sound like they massage and move yr ligaments around.

My gf had this done...

her parents bought her 9 sessions, that seam to have changed her life & how she relates to her body. Deep tissue work indeed, working most on the fascia tissue that connect most of the muscliture...

She had her inner organs individually massaged, in one session, her sinouses in another, her spine was massage & aligned from the front, after the rolpher had moved her abdominal organs aside to acces the spine. Lots of other stuff... Sometimes she would come home in tears other times floating about 5 inchec off the ground.

seems expensive, & several Rolphers are growing disapointed with what seems to be a "watering down" of the techniques in order for them to be more commercially viable to the average customer, i.e. Less Painful.

Oooo. Sounds... intense. If only my pain threshold was higher.

Looked into this a few years ago: definitely doesn't sound like the kind of treatment you'd be looking to have every other weekend. And with that kind of oomph going into it you'd want to be really sure you had a good practitioner.

Am I right in thinking this is like the stuff the guy has in Jacob's Ladder?

Does anyone know of any good practitioners in London?

No Clue what you're talking about with Jacob's Ladder...

My Gf had 9 sessions about every other week. Each session focused on a specific part of the Body, so no one part was delt with twice in a row...

Yeah a reputable practicioner is a must. One needs to have a considerable amount of body working experience before being considered for education in Rolfing... Though, as I said, standards seem to be dropping.

After she was finished she was about an inch taller & her feet where about a half a shoe size larger. Appariently it's more effective than Chiropractic treatment for aligning the spine and skeletal structure as it also works on the muscle tissue holding one's skeleton in (or out of) place...

heheh... my 888th post
