I met a stanger on a train...

...this morning. Or rather, I didn't meet him/her. I'm not sure it was a him or her or a hir. In any case, this stranger was sitting on the N train, wrapped from head to toe in a black plastic garbage bag. At first, I wasn't sure if there really was a person in there or not, as there was another black plastic garbage bag on the floor of the train next to the "seated" bag. But as the train began to move, the seated bag shifted in a wholly person-like manner. Ladies and Gentlemen, I was Freaked Out. Who knows what was under there? Cthulu? Richard Simmons? This mystery is never to be solved, as I switched cars at the next stop. The amazing thing was, this being New York, everyone else on the train was completely blase about the whole thing, with people even sitting next to black plastic bag person. There are just some things too strange for me to deal with before 8 am.

I've always wanted to believe that there are places where you can wear the most ridiculous thing imaginable in public and not be hassled. Is this really true of New York? Or is it just certain areas, like the subway?

Um... I think that it's fairly safe, but not fool-proof. I would imagine that if there's a place on earth that fits that description, NYC is it. I see crazy people doing crazy things all the time, and nearly everyone just keeps to themselves about it. I guess it's probably a bit more "live and let live" than most, but some of it may come from a fear, and not wanting to become involved with people who might be insane... Also, I think some things are less likely to be tolerated in richer areas and corporate districts...

"I met a stranger on the train/ he bumped right into me/ kiss me/ kiss me in the shadow/ kiss me in the shadow of a doubt"...

Have you ever seen the video for that? One of the best videos ever, I say...

Thats kinda like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I was listening to the audio commentary on it last night, and Jon Cleese was talking about having to re-shoot a scene at a park in London, he was wearing the whole nights of the roundtable getup and nobody said a word to him or gave him a second look....thing is though - what would you say to him or your plastic bag (wo)man?

I picked up the dullest magazine at the airport, which had a little bit which made me laugh like a loon: they played pranks on the general public, and in one they put a woman in a large suitcase with her hand hanging out. then a man dragged the case around, the hand flopping about. some people did nothing and other screamed. I would have paid money to be the guy....

I think the key thing here is that it was early on a monday morning where nearly everyone was in a "Fuck you, I'm late for work & I haven't had my coffee yet" mood. What are you gonna say to the boss when you show up late--"Gee, I would've been here on time, but I just HAD to fuck with this black plastic bag thingie on the subway!"

That had to be an M Train Situation. The M train is definitely one of the wackiest train lines in NYC.

I saw this person on the Q train coming in from Brooklyn this morning. Very unsettling.
