I was in a horrible car wreck!

it's true. i was cruising along on the 110 freeway singing along with johnny cash's cocain blues (obviously my first mistake) and a big white pickup truck suddenly stopped. suddenly. on the freeway. I slammed on my brakes and slid quite a ways -- those amazing moments where you never thought seconds could last so long and a stretch of asphalt stretch so short -- until i hit him. as i was wondering how much trouble i'd be in, my world was ROCKED and i saw lightening in my eyes and my neck moved in brand new directions as a kid in an suv PLOWED through me. then the guy in front of me drove off without a fucking word!

i'm ok. i'm sore as hell right now, and i'm sure i'm going to be in agony tomorrow, but i certainly don't seem to be truly injured. the car is totalled, it'll never drive again. it's too bad, it was the first car i've ever owned, bought it last year when i moved to LA, a cute little rundown convertible. but i still made my dinner appointment, which oddly enough was with the publisher of semiotext(e) and that made the whole thing feel like i was in a metatextual ballard novel. fuck a car, i'm alive, that's my story for the evening!

Scareeee, Gypt. fuck a car, i'm alive indeed! Go easy on yourself - lot of emotional turbulence bound to be stirred up by a shock of that magnitude, and watch out for soft tissue damage, particularly after your description of the unusual neck movement.

Don't fuck a car. You'll only regret it in the morning.

May I suggest an x-ray? Especially if you have health insurance... A friend of mine ended up in a halo for 6 months or so after being a passenger in a moderate accident. She almost didn't get her neck checked out and it could have killed her.

Also, legally speaking, the SUV kid is liable- following too closely (at least if you're in the U.S.) If you haven't been already, get the hell to a hospital, and have your physical status put to paper.

Firstly what they said, Go To A HOSPITAL and get an X-RAY.
And glad you're alright and all that, and this is very hypocritcal of me but slow down mate we kind of like the world with you in it.
But the white van man and the SUV drivers were both assholes.

And yet again with the X-ray nag. SEE DOCTOR. Also:

To judge from the tone of your post, you were/are experiencing the euphoria that comes from disaster just averted. This is all good and natural. Be aware, however, that like a lot of altered states it may leave you with a heavy comedown; in this sort of case, feeling weepy, down, anxious, or just plain numb. Don't worry too much about this, but be aware that it might happen. If you do find yourself having these feelings, try to put them in perspective-- they're natural, part of a psychological process.

I'd seriously suggest staying with freinds for a day or two, or at least having a mate touch base every so often to check that you're okay.

And SUVs suck fetid donkey dingleberries in Slough.

got back from the hospital, x-rays say i;m a-ok. feel like i was beaten up by a gang of "punk rockers" with bicycle chains, though. feelings of euphoria won't last because i have to pack up all my stuff and MOVE OUT OF MY HOUSE tomorrow (yikes). but feelings of euphoria will quickly resurface, however, as i'm going to the san diego comicon on thursday. leaving the flaming wreckage of twisted metal behind me, no doubt.

semiotext(e) publishes books for and by the ultimate theorybitch set.

"I slammed on my brakes and slid quite a ways"

Next time try cadence braking. What's cadence braking? Check out 'How to Brake'. Might save this hassle in the future, or maybe somebody's life.

you know, i keep thinking, if i had been able to stop better, this wouldn't have happened. except that 90% of the damage was the force i absorbed when the guy behind me slammed my car. so if i had stopped earlier, both in time and space, i actually would have absorbed even more impact. That both myself and the guy behind me crashed suggests to me that there was something odd about what was going on.

Mazarene: Also, legally speaking, the SUV kid is liable- following too closely

Except strictly speaking, so was Gypt...Fuck it, everyone drives on the assumption nothing too unusual is gonna happen, leading to this kind of thing and another series of your local schadenfreude telly show. Glad to hear you're OK, though, Gypt.

I think Gypt would only technically be liable had he actually hit the first accident causing bastard.

-smacks forehead- right. reading. sorry. I'll work on that. Re-reading Gypt's original post, since Stop-in-the-Middle-of-the-Highway-Guy drove off, he's essentially liable for everything now. My understanding is that if you leave the scene of an accident, particularly a serious one, even if it isn't your fault, you've essentially handed over your ass. But that would require finding the guy, and in spite of my delusions, I'm not a TV lawyer, so I could just be entirely wrong.

Fuck, man... not much to add on the legality issue, but you're alive, which is what counts first and foremost.
