yeah, well, it's not done, but i'm planning to spend a few months in the foggy city. i already got a plan for work, but maybe the more i know, the coolest it is...
i'm sure there were 165756454365 topics about it, but i'm out when it comes to find infos about where to live, plan of jobs, etc...
any infos that you could share with a froggy who miss thames ?

Crikey, that's a broad request for info. Just get yourself over here, it'll work out. Honest.

Absolutely. What could possibly go wrong?

That's not a request for advice, that's a damn commission for a travel guide. Come on, jj, give us a little more to work with...

In the meantime:

1. London is big. You will need to figure out how you plan to get around and find your dwelling place accordingly.

2. Avoid Leicester Square unless you're going to a big screen movie.

3. Do find someone mad enough to buy you clothes from the Livingstone Studio in Hampstead.

4. "Lingerie Sale" is not an admission of soiled underwear, but rather an invitation to buy cheap knickers.

5. When buying soft drinks in pubs, remember to tell them you don't want ice. Otherwise they'll charge you two quid for ice and thirty pence for a teaspoon of your chosen beverage.

Aaah, but delicious Coca-Cola is severely undermined by lack of ice. Too much and its ruined, but if the barmaid/man gets it right.... And it's essential it's served with lemon in a tall, clear glass. Mmmmm.

Just realised that I've become a mobile hoarding and a Coke ad is hardly in the topic abstract.

I would second the "London is big" warning. It would help if we had some idea of the kind of work you plan to do, what sort of budget you're on, that kind of thing.

yeah, i realize that it was kind of asking "hello, i'm coming, any sugestions ?".
well, basically, i suppose i'll find my way on cultural/things to do, between the lith' ideas and others contacts. now, i think i will work in promotion for record labels and distribution companies, for a short time that is, and on the money side, i think it will not be that much.
i know that the foggy town is pretty expensive to live in (i experience it in each of my trips), so i was more asking if you know where to find help for finding flats to share, extra jobs or stuff like that. plus, if you know wher foreign people can find some cool infos that are well knowed of you but unknown of us, well.... it can help !

do you have a rough guide to london? i always buy one, wherever i'm going, and i find them to be invaluable. be warned - rental prices have gone sky high recently. you're talking £400 or £500 per calender month, often for smallish rooms in multi occupied houses. there *are* cheaper places (£300 - £350) but you'll need to be staying somewhere to give you time to find one - they disappear the moment they're available. or else go live somewhere a lot further out. i live in hackney, and use notice boards in bookshops and cafes to find rooms, but 'time out' magazine has a fair amount of accommodation in it, too. and, of course, you can't get better than word of mouth - if a mate of mine hadn't been moving out at of the lovely house i'm in at the moment, just at the right time, i'd be really stuck. but i'm on a very low wage, so my options are limited. best of luck!

where to look for work depends very much on the kind of work you are looking for... there are plenty of magazines aimed at backpackers SX and TNT for example that have many pages of job aimed mostly at backpackers...

Can always give you a floor to crash on for a couple of weeks with advance warning. (although if you have a problem with dogs, then best not. We have 2. They're lovely.)

Yeah, what sleaze said-- look out for those free papers (they turn up in pubs where a lot of backbackers go.) Here's a link to tntmagazine.com's London job information for backpackers

The potential size of your utility bills aside, 90% of the scare stories told about the perils of London, or any specific area of the same, are hysterical exaggerations/untruths composed by people who need to be reminded that there's plenty of room left in the sleepiest corners of Dorset. *Plenty* of room.

That's all you need to know, really.

If financially embarrassed, try prising up one of the gold paving-stones and living off that for a while.

WHen you know how much you've got to spend per month, and the sort of place you want to live in London, try moveflat.co.uk - you can advertise yourself as a sharer and people can email you, as well as the usual ads thing. It's good too, 'cause you can narrow down precisely what you're looking for...
