Post your favourite stuff... the things you've been thinking of posting but never got round to because you thought someone'd out-whatever you... always remaining conscious of bandwidth issues, I hasten to add... the threads you meant to contriubute to but haven't done so yet? Go join in!

i've been throwing caution to the wind and having some total honesty sessions via pm - apologising to one barbeperson for being a wimp, making sure others know that It Matters That I Met Them. which is a good thing, whatever happens. this is all very weird, as i'm running around making sure i see friends and whatnot anyway due to my imminent departure from london.

It is weird. If Barbelith closes I don't feel as if I know anyone well enough to pm or swap emails or anything. Has anybody checked out just how bad other internet communities are? Makes you really appreciate the effort put into the deisgn of this place...and the people...

Well, in the interests of exploration I've been posting a little on Fade To Black. It's interesting (in a compare-and-contrast way) but too large and rambling for me - and the acres of 'poster signature' are something of a turn-off. Surprisingly (if that's not too patronising) un-'chuckleheaded', really: today I stumbled across a 'Mental Breakdown' thread which could've been a facsimile of our own hardy perennials.

But *sob* it's not Barbelith...

I shall continue my own explorations of the Wonderful World Of Web, if Barbetith closes. Except without Barbelith.

While I'll miss a URL where I can discuss my misgivings about popular perception of quantum theory at the same time as Bagpuss, I'll live. And so will the rest of you. There are other places, you know. I hate to say it, but Barbelith is not so special as some people believe.

Maybe not, but it's going to be hard work to replicate the relationships between posters which have grown up over time. I've been here about a year and a half, and quite a lot of the people here are my friends - not sure it would be repeatable anywhere else. Very depressing.

I hate to make about my third post to this effect in about 2 days, but there *IS* Pocket Barbelith at the Delphi forums, and if everyone turns up there rather than giving up hope, it'll be just like this place but with crapper software, and I dare say SOMEONE will be able to build a new UBB board..

I have large server space available, and reasonable data transfer rates (I'm not sure of the limit at the moment because I'm not sure how much Barbelith gets). I have board software. I could set a board up. The thing is, I wouldn't want to do that as a replacement for Barbelith, because I don't have the same vision as the founders. Neither would anyone else, really.

I'd set something up if people asked, the server space is just going to waste otherwise, but it would never be a neo-Barbelith.

Hmm...

Perhaps you should talk to His Coatness about setting up a Barbelith mirror site, thus splitting the traffic, but perhaps complicating the board setup...
